A 70-year-old man was referred to our hospital for an abnormal chest X-ray shadow. A chest CT scan showed a mass shadow with a cavitary lesion in segment 6 of the right lung. One year after radical resection(resection of the lower lobe of the right lung; pT2aN0M0, pStage ⅠB), the patient exhibited enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes and liver metastases, and postoperative recurrence was determined.

Preliminary data showed that the widely used creatinine-based Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) 2009 significantly overestimated GFR in Indians. Newer estimated GFR (eGFR) equations based on creatinine and cystatin C, omitting the race, have been recently proposed.

This study aimed to identify the critical carbohydrate-active enzyme (CAZyme) genes contributing to starch degradation in L. starkeyi.

However, developing effective systems remains a challenge. We aimed to bridge this gap by constructing a prediction model.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA low-cost and low-power-consumption optical transmitter with a narrow shoreline is crucial for short-reach optical communication. To increase the shoreline bandwidth density (Gbps/mm) at low cost, multiple optical components, including lasers, should be integrated on a single chip. In this study, we develop a sixteen-channel membrane laser array integrated with silica-based spot-size convertors on a SiO/Si substrate, with a footprint of 1.

In this study, the efficacy of the VD treatment in pregnant women with a short cervix (sCX) diagnosed after 24 weeks is evaluated, focusing on perinatal outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective historical cohort study.
We measured intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) levels, a useful marker of small intestinal mucosal injury, in patients with cirrhosis to determine their relationship with liver function and complications. This cross-sectional study included 71 patients with cirrhosis admitted for treatment of cirrhotic complications or hepatocellular carcinoma (cohort A) and 104 patients with cirrhosis who received direct-acting antiviral therapy for HCV (cohort B). I-FABP levels, measured by ELISA, were evaluated relative to hepatic reserve and compared with non-invasive scoring systems for diagnostic performance in cirrhotic complications.

Research Question: What are the risk factors for a prolonged third stage of labour, closely related to postpartum haemorrhage, and what is the effect of assisted reproductive technology (ART) on the third stage of labour?
Design: Clinical data of women who delivered vaginally at term at 12 primary maternity hospitals in Japan (2010-2018) (n = 25,336) were obtained; 1148 (4.5%) conceived through ART and 2246 (8.9%) through non-ART treatments.
This research aimed to examine the effect of daily intake of food containing strain T21 (T21) on skin conditions and inflammation-related markers in healthy adults who experience itching because of dry skin and have an atopic predisposition. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-group study was conducted on 44 subjects aged 20 to 64 years. Subjects were randomly assigned to receive a T21-containing food or placebo daily for 8 weeks.

This study evaluated the effect of histological CAM on postnatal growth trajectories in very preterm infants using a nationwide neonatal database in Japan.
Method: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted using clinical data of 4220 preterm neonates who weighed ≤ 1500 g and were born at < 32 weeks of gestation between 2003-2017 (CAM group: n = 2110; non-CAM group: n = 2110).
Aim: Prenatal maternal depression is known to affect the neurodevelopment of offspring. This study aimed to investigate the profile of umbilical cord serum in mothers with major depressive disorder (MDD).
Methods: Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was conducted using umbilical cord serum from mothers with MDD (n = 5) and controls (control, n = 5).
Background: Lifestyle modifications by educational sessions are an important component of multidisciplinary treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD). We attempted to identify the best method to teach these modifications in order to ensure their acceptance by patients and investigated its effectiveness in CKD practice.
Methods: This study is a post-hoc analysis of the FROM-J study.
Acute liver injury is a life-threatening disease. Although immune responses are involved in the development and exacerbation of acute liver injury, the cellular and molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Intravenous administration of the plant lectin concanavalin A (ConA) is widely used as a model of acute liver injury.

We especially aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors for non-previa PAS in HRC-FET pregnancies.
Methods: Overall, 279 women who conceived through ART at three ART facilities and delivered at a single center were included in this retrospective study.
Background: Cardiovascular-disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death, and the association between obesity and CVD is particularly significant among women. Given the evidence highlighting the significance of weight-gain velosity, we aimed to elucidate its influence on cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), a reliable surrogate marker of CVD, and identify the high-benefit population where this influence is most pronounced.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study used electronic data from annual health checkups for workers in Japan.
Objective: The rhomboid lip is a neural tissue encountered during cerebellopontine angle surgery, with differing shape and extent among individuals. This study aimed to investigate the variation of rhomboid lips during posterior fossa surgery.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we examined posterior cranial fossa surgeries performed using a retrosigmoid approach.
subsp. N793 (N793) is a lactic acid bacterium (LAB) isolated from corn. We previously showed that N793 increases the level of keratinocyte growth factor, which is required for hair growth, in the culture supernatant of human follicle dermal papilla cells.

Cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway (CAP), an anti-inflammatory pathway mediated by the vagus nerve, acetylcholine, and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAChRs), offers new perspectives for the treatment of S-AKI. In this study, we investigated the role of CAP and α7nAChR in kidney injury by employing an LPS-induced septic kidney injury mouse model and GTS-21 intervention.

We developed short-active-length distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers to reduce the power consumption of chip-to-chip optical interconnects. These lasers have buried bulk InGaAsP waveguides to increase the coupling efficiency between the active region and DBR to 99.79% from the 98.

This study examined whether the serum IgA/C3 ratio can serve as an IgAN progression marker.
Methods: (1) This nationwide multicenter retrospective study in Japan included 718 patients with biopsy-confirmed IgAN.
