Purpose: To study the trend of delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS) in Sweden in the past decade.
Methods: This register-based cohort study utilized data from the Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR) from 2010 through 2019. Register files from patients who underwent cataract surgery in both eyes during the study period were linked using their social security numbers.
Purpose: To study the incidence, predictive factors, etiology, and visual consequences of postoperative endophthalmitis (PE) in relation to 3 intracameral (IC) antibiotic regimes.
Setting: Swedish National Cataract Register entries from 2011 through 2017.
Design: Observational retrospective study.
This review summarizes data collected by the Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR), which by the end of 2022 contained data on more than 2.6 million cataract surgeries between 1992-2022. During these 31 years, the cataract surgery rate (CSR) rose from 3 700 to 14 407.

During these 30 years, the cataract surgery rate rose from 3700 to 12 800.

Methods: Since 2010 the NCR contains social security number of all individuals in the list of parameters reported to NCR after each cataract procedure. Bilateral surgeries were mapped out using social security numbers.
Purpose: To evaluate the performance of different probabilistic classifiers to predict posterior capsule rupture (PCR) prior to cataract surgery.
Methods: Three probabilistic classifiers were constructed to estimate the probability of PCR: a Bayesian network (BN), logistic regression (LR) model, and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) network. The classifiers were trained on a sample of 2 853 376 surgeries reported to the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EUREQUO) between 2008 and 2018.
Purpose: To investigate the surgical and pharmacological management and outcomes of patients with cataract and concurrent uveitis.
Methods: Data from the Swedish National Cataract Register, 2018-2019, were collected and analysed. Uveitic eyes were identified and eyes without uveitis were used as controls.
Background: The purpose of this study was to study the minimum important difference (MID) of the Catquest-9SF questionnaire in cataract surgery.
Methods: A nationwide multi-center prospective randomized study was conducted using the Swedish National Cataract Register and the Catquest-9SF questionnaire. Randomized patients (n = 400) who had completed the Catquest-9SF before surgery and three months after surgery were sent an anchor question on self-assessed change in visual function after cataract surgery 14 days after the postoperative Catquest-9SF.
Purpose: To determine the trends in anesthesia techniques for cataract surgery over the past decade and their relationship to surgical complications.
Setting: Clinics affiliated with the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EUREQUO).
Design: Retrospective cross-sectional register-based study.
Purpose: Visual functioning evaluated by the Catquest-9SF questionnaire has shown to be a valid measure for assessing a patient's prioritization for cataract surgery. This study adapted Catquest-9SF for visual function outcomes post uni-lateral cataract surgery or bi-lateral cataract surgery.
Methods: Visual functioning was assessed before and after uni-lateral or bi-lateral cataract surgery using the Catquest-9SF questionnaire.

Purpose: To develop a psychometrically robust electronic patient reported outcome measure (ePROM) for refractive surgery.
Setting: Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, United Kingdom.
Design: Questionnaire development study.
Background: The recent systematic adoption of intracameral antibiotic injection during cataract surgery in Sweden, India, and the US serves as a model for the successful transitioning of local quality improvement initiatives to organization-wide implementation. Although the delivery of eye care in the 3 countries is distinctly organized with differing governances and technological infrastructure, each contains elements of a learning organization (ie, an organization that has adopted a culture of creating, acquiring, and transferring knowledge into practice through system-level and clinician-level change).
Methods: We describe a retrospective and organizational implementation study of intracameral antibiotic injection in Sweden, through the efforts of the National Cataract Registry; in the US by Kaiser Permanente; and in India by the Aravind Eye Hospital System.
Purpose: To analyze the outcomes of cataract surgery complicated by posterior capsule rupture (PCR).
Setting: European clinics affiliated to the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EUREQUO).
Design: Retrospective cross-sectional register-based study.
Purpose: To report the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis (PE) after immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS) in Sweden.
Design: Retrospective cohort registry study.
Participants: Patient data from 1 457 172 cataract extractions, including 1 364 934 unilateral surgeries and 92 238 ISBCSs.
The environment in psychiatric inpatient care is key to patient recovery and staff job satisfaction. In this qualitative study of patient and staff experiences of a new spatial design in psychiatric inpatient care, we analysed data from 11 semi-structured interviews with patients and five focus group discussions with staff using qualitative content analysis. The new design contributed to feelings of safety and recovery, but patients and staff also reported some frustration and added stress.

Setting: European clinics affiliated with the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EUREQUO).
Design: Retrospective cross-sectional register-based study.
Purpose: To analyse if patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) subjected to cataract surgery differ in outcome compared to patients without DR with regard to best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), deviation from target refraction, intraoperative difficulties and risk of complications.
Methods: A register-based study from the Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR) during the years 2015-2017 including 358 040 cataract procedures. Patients with other ocular pathology than cataract and DR were omitted from outcome analyses.
Aims: To investigate changes in the prescribing patterns of postoperative eye drops following cataract surgery in Sweden from 2010 to 2017.
Methods: Data from cataract procedures registered in the National Cataract Register during the month of March from 2010 to 2017 were record linked and sent to the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register, which allowed us to determine which eye drops the patients had obtained from 3 months presurgery to 2 weeks post surgery.
Results: During the 8-year study period, 54 889 surgeries were registered.
Background: The Catquest-9SF questionnaire is a patient reported outcome measure that quantifies the visual benefits from cataract surgery. The purpose of this study was to translate and adapt the Catquest-9SF questionnaire for France, to assess its psychometric properties via Rasch analysis, and to assess its validity when completed using an electronic notepad.
Methods: The Catquest-9SF questionnaire was translated following the guidelines of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.
Purpose: To report practice patterns of corneal transplantation in Europe.
Setting: Corneal clinics in 10 European member states (MS), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
Design: Multinational registry study.
Background: The Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR) collects data on cataract surgery outcomes during March, including patient-reported outcomes using the Catquest-9SF questionnaire for over 11 years. Previous studies from NCR have shown that the preoperative visual acuity has improved over time. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the Catquest-9SF Rasch scoring performance in this changing environment.
