White Thyroid Scintigraphy.

White thyroid scintigraphy corresponds to an absence or near-absence of radiotracer fixation in the cervical region. After eliminating technical causes, the main etiologies are iodine overload, thyroiditis, and congenital hypothyroidism. We report the case of a 22-day-old newborn with congenital hypothyroidism.

Monte Carlo simulation of SPECT characterization for 223 Ra post-injection scintigraphy.

Objectives: 223 Ra is a promising α-emitting radionuclide for prostate cancer metastasis palliative treatment. Post-injection scintigraphy is of major importance to verify the concentration of the radiopharmaceutical in the targeted sites. Given the low activity administered to patients, the choice of acquisition parameters, including the collimator type, the energy window's width and the photopeak energy to be used, is primordial for the image quality.

Artifactual Hot Spots on Technetium-99m Macroaggregated Albumin Perfusion Lung Scan.

A 40-year-old male patient with pulmonary tuberculosis was subjected to a perfusion lung scan to rule out pulmonary embolism. Administration of technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin through preexisting venous access resulted in multiple round hot spots in both pulmonary fields. This finding was interpreted as an artifact caused by injection through preexisting venous access.

Pulmonary artery stenosis in Takayasu disease mimicking pulmonary embolism on perfusion lung scan: A case report.

Lung scan is an accurate and noninvasive tool for evaluating the distribution of lung perfusion. We present a rare case of total absence of perfusion on lung scan to the right lung with two contralateral defects due to severe occlusion of the right pulmonary artery, as well as segmental arteries in the left lung in a young female woman diagnosed with Takayasu Arteritis. We highlight the similarities of the findings between pulmonary arteritis in Takayasu disease and thromboembolic disease and the importance of careful interpretation of perfusion lung scan in order to avoid misdiagnosis that could endanger the patient's life.

Ovarian Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Revealed by Bone Metastasis: A Rare Pediatric Case.

Ovary involvement of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is rare. We report a rare case of ovarian NHL during adolescence revealed by bone metastasis. The diagnosis of malignant lymphoma was established after adnexectomy and histological study of the excised tissue.

Radioiodine I is successfully used in nuclear medicine for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. This radionuclide emits β particles used for the treatment and gamma photons used for diagnosis. The aim of this study is to determine gamma radiation doses received by medical personnel situated at a distance of 1 m from patients having ingested I for the treatment of hyperthyroidism diseases.

[Tumoral calcinoses in a chronic hemodialysis patient: The role of SPECT/CT hybrid imaging].

Introduction: Tumoral calcinosis is a rare benign disease, defined by the presence of calcified deposits in periarticular tissues. It can be hereditary or secondary at chronic renal failure at the stage of dialysis. This work illustrates the contribution of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in the diagnosis and management of tumoral calcinoses in a chronic hemodialysis patient, based on a clinical case.

Are unsaturated isocyanides so different from the corresponding nitriles?

Simple unsaturated and cyclopropylic isocyanides are synthesized by an efficient and simple approach. These compounds with gradually increasing distance between the unsaturated moiety and the isonitrile group are studied by UV photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations, and also compared to the corresponding nitriles. The first photoelectron band of the unsaturated compounds is linked to removal of an electron from the HOMO, which corresponds to CC multiple-bond ionization in antibonding interaction with the π-isocyanide bond (in the same plane) for conjugated systems, or in antibonding interaction with the pseudo-π-CH(2) group for isolated systems.

Synthesis, microwave spectrum, and dipole moment of allenylisocyanide (H2C═C═CHNC), a compound of potential astrochemical interest.

An improved synthesis of a compound of potential astrochemical interest, allenylisocyanide (H(2)C═C═CHNC), is reported together with its microwave spectrum, which has been investigated in the 8-120 GHz spectral range to facilitate a potential identification in interstellar space. The spectra of the ground vibrational state and of five vibrationally excited states belonging to three different vibrational modes have been assigned for the parent species. A total of 658 transitions with a maximum value of J = 71 were assigned for the ground state and accurate values obtained for the rotational and quartic centrifugal distortion constants.

Looking for heteroaromatic rings and related isomers as interstellar candidates.

Finding complex organic molecules in the interstellar medium (ISM) is a major concern for understanding the possible role of interstellar organic chemistry in the synthesis of prebiotic species. The present interdisciplinary report is a prospective study aimed at helping detection of heteroaromatic compounds or at least of some of their isomers in the ISM. The thermodynamic stabilities of the C(4)H(5)N, C(4)H(4)O, C(4)H(4)S families were calculated using density functional theory (DFT).

[Lower gastrointestinal bleeding: contribution of labeled erythrocytes scintigraphy].

The lower gastrointestinal bleeding is common and somewhat difficult to diagnose. Scintigraphy with 99mTc labeled erythrocytes is a non invasive procedure which allows to demonstrate bleeding and sometimes to locate its origin. We report the case of a 54 year-old patient admitted for repeated digestive bleeding with impaired haemodynamics.
