Introduction: Meteorological factors can increase stroke risk; however, their impact is not precisely understood. Heat waves during summer increase total mortality. Therefore, we hypothesized that the average daily temperature in summer may correlate with the incidence of thrombolytic treatment for acute ischemic stroke in Budapest and Pest County, Hungary.

Rhodopsins had long been considered non-fluorescent until a peculiar voltage-sensitive fluorescence was reported for archaerhodopsin-3 (Arch3) derivatives. These proteins named QuasArs have been used for imaging membrane voltage changes in cell cultures and small animals, but they could not be applied in living rodents. To develop the next generation of sensors, it is indispensable to first understand the molecular basis of the fluorescence and its modulation by the membrane voltage.

An ever-increasing number of intracellular multi-protein networks have been identified in plant cells. Split-GFP-based protein-protein interaction assays combine the advantages of interaction studies in a native environment with additional visualization of protein complex localization. Because of their simple protocols, they have become some of the most frequently used methods.

Objectives: Risk factors for stroke include psychological effects, such as depression. Festive occasions (such as Christmas in Hungary) may carry a significant emotional impact and may therefore contribute to increased cardiovascular risk. Thrombolytic treatment of acute ischemic stroke has a narrow time window and allows for the precise assessment of stroke incidence.

Background: Macrosomic fetuses are at increased risk of shoulder dystocia. We aimed to compare induction of labour with expectant management for large-for-date fetuses for prevention of shoulder dystocia and other neonatal and maternal morbidity associated with macrosomia.

Methods: We did this pragmatic, randomised controlled trial between Oct 1, 2002, and Jan 1, 2009, in 19 tertiary-care centres in France, Switzerland, and Belgium.

Routine monitoring of Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) during labor enables diagnosis of fetal distress and appropriate management by the medical staff. Diagnosis of fetal distress relies mainly on a subjective visual assessment of FHR variations using baseline level, oscillations magnitude, decelerations and their time-relation to the parturient uterine contractions. Strong intra and inter-observer discrepancies exist with this widely used technique, and sometimes requires fetal scalp blood sample pH measurement, which is not fully reliable either.

An eleven-year review of treatment records of patients who became pregnant as a result of infertility treatment (n = 3692) was conducted. All records were examined to determine whether clomiphene citrate (CC) was used in the cycle of conception and whether or not an ectopic pregnancy occurred. Data were additionally analyzed for the incidence of ectopic pregnancy with and without assisted reproductive technology (ART).
