Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylserine (PS), along with phosphatidylcholine (PC), are key phospholipids (PL) in cell membranes and lipoproteins, prone to oxidative modifications. Their oxidized forms, OxPE and OxPS, play significant roles in inflammation and immune response. This review explores their structural oxidative changes under non-enzymatic conditions and their roles in physiological and pathological contexts, influencing inflammation, and immunity.

Species phenology - the timing of key life events - is being altered by ongoing climate changes with yet underappreciated consequences for ecosystem stability. While flowering is generally occurring earlier, we know much less about other key processes such as the time of fruit ripening, largely due to the lack of comprehensive long-term datasets. Despite the growing concern over nanoplastics' (NPls) environmental impacts, their long-term effects on terrestrial organisms remain poorly understood. The COVID-19 pandemic made robot manufacturers explore the idea of combining mobile robotics with UV-C light to automate the disinfection processes. But performing this process in an optimum way introduces some challenges: on the one hand, it is necessary to guarantee that all surfaces receive the radiation level to ensure the disinfection; at the same time, it is necessary to minimize the radiation dose to avoid the damage of the environment. Background: Transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO) is a major cause of transfusion-related morbidity and mortality in countries with well developed transfusion services. The International Society of Blood Transfusion, the International Haemovigilance Network, and AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks), have developed and validated a revised definition of TACO.

Methods: International Haemovigilance Network-member haemovigilance systems (Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Slovenia, United Kingdom and United States) provided cases of respiratory complications categorised by their systems, including clinical parameters listed in the 2017 draft definition (part 1).

The aim of this paper is to classify the land covered with oat crops, and the quantification of frost damage on oats, while plants are still in the flowering stage. The images are taken by a digital colour camera CCD-based sensor. Unsupervised classification methods are applied because the plants present different spectral signatures, depending on two main factors: illumination and the affected state.

Platelets are known to undergo shape change, activation, a release reaction and apoptosis/necrosis during processing and storage, all of which are collectively known as the platelet storage lesion. Any additional processing may have some deleterious impact on platelet activability and functional integrity, which need to be investigated. This preliminary investigation was undertaken to establish the combined effects of standard platelet storage media and the intercept pathogen reduction technology on platelet activation and activability during 7 day storage, using buffy-coat derived platelets in standard storage media containing 35% plasma (N=24).

This study aimed at evaluating the potential of an in situ algal bioassay for routine toxicity estimates of potentially contaminated estuarine environments using the microalga Phaeodactylum tricornutum immobilized in alginate beads. The influence of the initial cell density in the beads and of salinity on algal growth was first investigated. The potential of the proposed bioassay was evaluated by comparing laboratory with in situ results.
