Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the prognostic value of the TAPSE/sPAP ratio in patients hospitalized for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), focusing on its link to in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).
  • In a cohort of 481 patients, a TAPSE/sPAP ratio below 0.55 was found to significantly predict the occurrence of MACEs, with odds ratios indicating a very strong association even after accounting for other health factors.
  • The findings highlight that a lower TAPSE/sPAP ratio improves risk assessment beyond conventional factors, suggesting it could serve as a critical marker for patient prognosis during hospitalization for ACS.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 325 patients tested, 12.6% tested positive for drugs, with a notably higher prevalence (34.0%) among those under 50 years old; these users were predominantly younger men and active smokers.
  • * The findings revealed that recreational drug users experienced significantly higher rates of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) and ventricular arrhythmia, indicating a critical association between drug use and poorer in-hospital outcomes for STEMI patients.

Autosomal dominant congenital stationary night blindness (adCSNB) is rare and results from altered phototransduction giving a Riggs type of electroretinogram (ERG) with loss of the rod a-wave and small b-waves. These patients usually have normal vision in light. Only few mutations in genes coding for proteins of the phototransduction cascade lead to this condition; most of these gene defects cause progressive rod-cone dystrophy.
