Breaking sedentary behavior among university students: the interest of incorporating cycling desks concurrently with an academic task at light intensity.

: University students experience ≈ 9 h of sitting/day, which may support interventions like active desks. University students ( = 24) Method: Randomized crossover trial aimed to compare effects of sitting (SED), low and moderate-intensity cycling desks (CD; CD) concurrent to an academic task (30-minute video + written exam). Selective visual attention (Tobii Glasses 2) was measured throughout the intervention, and workload (NASA-TLX) and anxiety (POMS-SF) were assessed before and after the video and post-exam.

Feeling safe: a critical look at the effect of neighborhood safety features and perceptions on childhood symptoms of depression.

Background: Physical characteristics and perceptions of an environment can have enduring effects on one's mental health. The present study aimed to determine whether a set of measures of neighborhood safety - independent built environment features, parents' perception of neighborhood safety and community cohesion, and children's perception of neighborhood safety - best related to symptoms of depression in young boys and girls from Montréal, Québec.

Methods: Data were from the Quebec Adipose and Lifestyle Investigation in Youth (QUALITY) cohort.

Immediate Diagnosis of Breast Carcinoma on Core Needle Biopsy Using Ex Vivo Fluorescence Confocal Microscopy: Feasibility in a One-Stop Breast Clinic Workflow.

Background: In the one-stop breast clinic setting, breast cytology traditionally provides immediate diagnosis of carcinoma. Fluorescence confocal microscopy (FCM) is an emerging optical technique enabling ex vivo analysis of breast biopsies in real-time. This study represents the first proof of concept for integrating FCM imaging into the routine workflow of breast core needle biopsies (CNB) at Gustave Roussy's one-stop breast clinic.

The impact of exercise timing on energy intake: A systematic review and meta-analysis of diurnal and meal timing effects.

This systematic review and meta-analysis examine the literature (up to August 2nd 2024) on the influence of exercise timing on energy intake in both children and adults. A comprehensive search was conducted using MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science Core Collection, following PRISMA guidelines. The review was registered in Prospero (CRD42024553381) and evaluated using QUADAS-2.

Efficacy of stellate ganglion block in treatment of electrical storm: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Electrical storm (ES) is a life-threatening condition of recurrent ventricular arrhythmias (VA) in a short period of time. Percutaneous stellate ganglion blockade (SGB) is frequently used - however the efficacy is undefined. The objective of our systematic review was to determine the efficacy of SGB in reducing VA events and mortality among patients with ES.

Adiposity and cardiac autonomic function in children with a family history of obesity.

Purpose: Data on associations between adiposity and heart rate variability (HRV) in prepubertal children are limited. We examined the associations between adiposity indices and HRV, independent of lifestyle behaviors, comparing multiple indicators of adiposity, and explored differences between boys and girls.

Methods: Data stem from 469 participants of the QUALITY cohort (630 children aged 8-10 years with a parental history of obesity).

Adults born preterm have lower peripheral skeletal muscle area and strength.

Prematurity is associated with lower exercise capacity, which relies on the integrity of the cardiovascular, pulmonary, and skeletal muscle systems. Our animal model mimicking prematurity-associated conditions showed altered muscle composition and atrophy in adulthood. This study aimed to compare muscle composition and strength in adults born preterm versus full-term controls.

Prevalence and factors associated with undocumented children under-five in Haiti.

Background: Despite many efforts to provide children with legal existence over the last decades, 1 in 4 children under the age of 5 (166 million) do not officially exist, with limited possibility to enjoy their human rights. In Latin America and the Caribbean, Haiti has one of the highest rates of undocumented births. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence and the determinant factors of undocumented childhood in Haiti.

The association between depressive symptoms and overweight or obesity in prepubertal children: Findings from the QUALITY cohort.

Background: Youth obesity and depression are public health concerns. Although meta-analyses suggest a positive association between those conditions in adults and adolescents, evidence remains unclear in prepubertal children. We examined the bidirectional associations between levels of depressive symptoms and weight status in 8-10-year-old children with a parental history of obesity, over two years, and whether they differ by sex.

Reliability of a 2D-Panoramic Ultrasound System for the Determination of Muscle Volume in Older Hospitalized Patients.

Reliability of muscle thickness assessed in B-mode ultrasound has been confirmed in adults but remains a less direct assessment of muscle mass than muscle volume (MV). The aim of this prospective monocentric study was to assess the interday reliability of MV determined by the 2D-panoramic ultrasound in older hospitalized patients.Ten participants hospitalized in geriatric ward (mean age = 84) underwent 2 sessions of panoramic ultrasound scanning 1 week apart for MV assessment and DXA for leg lean mass (LLM) assessment when it was possible.

Neighbourhood Environments and Lifestyle Behaviours in Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes.

Objectives: Early prevention strategies are needed to mitigate the high risk of cardiovascular disease in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Residential neighbourhood features can promote healthy lifestyle behaviours and reduce cardiovascular risk, but less is known about their role in lifestyle behaviours in adolescents with T1D, and no studies used comparisons to healthy controls.

Methods: We examined associations between residential neighbourhood features and lifestyle behaviours in adolescents with T1D and healthy controls.

Effect of physical activity on olfaction acuity: A systematic review.

Olfaction acuity, which includes detection thresholds, discrimination and identification, appears to decline with age, obesity, and various neurological disorders. Knowing that smell influences energy intake, there is a growing interest in protecting this sense. Physical activity could be a key intervention to counteract the loss of olfaction.

Physiological response during exercise is preserved in children exposed to a suboptimal gestational environment.

Objective: This study investigated whether exposure to suboptimal gestational factors (SGFs) alters mechanical efficiency (ME) and substrate oxidation during rest and exercise in children as a mechanism contributing to obesity.

The association between parameters of physical activity and olfactory function-the importance of frequency and moderate intensity.

Introduction: Overall physical activity (PA) has been linked to decreased olfactory dysfunction and could improve olfactory function. Additionally, decreased olfactory function can contribute to reduced overall PA levels, given its association with neurodegenerative disorders. This study aims to examine the relationship between specific PA parameters (duration, frequency, intensity) and olfactory function in adults.

Structure and conformational variability of the HER2-trastuzumab-pertuzumab complex.

Single particle analysis from cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is particularly attractive for complexes for which structure prediction remains intractable, such as antibody-antigen complexes. Here we obtain the detailed structure of a particularly difficult complex between human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and the antigen-binding fragments from two distinct therapeutic antibodies binding to distant parts of the flexible HER2, pertuzumab and trastuzumab (HTP). We highlight the strengths and limitations of current data processing software in dealing with various kinds of heterogeneities, particularly continuous conformational heterogeneity, and in describing the motions that can be extracted from our dataset.

The Primary Care and Environmental Health e-Learning Course to Integrate Environmental Health in General Practice: Before-and-After Feasibility Study.

Background: Environmental and behavioral factors are responsible for 12.6 million deaths annually and contribute to 25% of deaths and chronic diseases worldwide. Through the One Health initiative, the World Health Organization and other international health organizations plan to improve these indicators to create healthier environments by 2030.

Integrins are the main adhesion receptors to ligands of the extracellular matrix (ECM), linking the actin cytoskeleton to the ECM and enabling cells to sense matrix rigidity and mount a directional cell migration response to stiffness gradients. Most models studied show preferred migration of single cells or cell clusters towards increasing rigidity.

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in pregnant women in an amazonian region: a large retrospective study from French Guiana.

Purpose: Over the past decade, the Amazon basin has faced numerous infectious epidemics. Our comprehension of the actual extent of these infections during pregnancy remains limited. This study aimed to clarify the clinical and epidemiological features of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases during pregnancy in western French Guiana and along the Maroni River over the previous nine years.

Breast tissue imaging atlas using ultra-fast confocal microscopy to identify cancer lesions.

New generation ultra-fast fluorescence confocal microscopy (UFCM) allows to image histological architecture of fresh breast tissue and may be used for ex vivo intraoperative analysis for margin status. The criteria to identify breast tumoral and non-tumoral tissues in UFCM images are still objects of investigation. The objective of the study was to create an atlas of ex vivo UFCM images of breast tissues and breast carcinomas based on the first extensive collection of large field-of-view UFCM breast images.
