Long-term outcomes of passive immunotherapy for COVID-19: a pooled analysis of a large multinational platform randomized clinical trial.

Objectives: Passive immunotherapy, including monoclonal antibodies and neutralizing proteins, was used for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 during the pandemic. Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines-Therapeutics for Inpatients with COVID-19 (ACTIV-3/TICO) was a multinational, randomized placebo-controlled platform trial that evaluated the effectiveness of multiple passive immunotherapy agents in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Given the long half-life of some agents studied, participants were followed for an extended period to assess the long-term efficacy and sustained safety of these agents.

Admission to acute medical wards for mental health concerns among children and young people in England from 2012 to 2022: a cohort study.

Background: There are challenges in providing high quality care for children and young people who are admitted to acute medical wards for mental health concerns. Although there is concern that these admissions are increasing, national data describing these patterns are scarce. We aimed to describe trends in these admissions in England over a 10-year period, and to identify factors associated with repeat admission and length of stay.

The role and impact of therapeutic counselling on the emotional experience of adults living with dementia: A systematic review.

Introduction There is limited psychological support available to help people living with dementia to deal with the emotional consequences of their condition. Anxiety and depression are commonly experienced in this population, yet the use of counselling and psychotherapeutic interventions is not well documented. Aim This systematic review sought to understand the current knowledge on the role and impact of therapeutic counselling on the emotional experience of adults living with dementia.

Admissions to paediatric medical wards with a primary mental health diagnosis: a systematic review of the literature.

Objective: To systematically review the literature describing children and young people (CYP) admissions to paediatric general wards because of primary mental health (MH) reasons, particularly in MH crisis.

Design: PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Google Scholar were searched, with no restriction on country or language. We addressed five search questions to inform: trends and/or the number of admissions, the risk factors for adverse care, the experiences of CYP, families/carers and healthcare professionals (HCPs) and the evidence of interventions aimed at improving the care during admissions.

This paper critically considers the concept of 'productive aging,' maintaining that although the term emerged as an effort to aid older people, it may be normative and potentially coercive. The paper illustrates this premise through an examination of Japan, through analysis of interviews conducted over decades, and, more fully, an analysis of advice books for Japanese seniors over the past twenty years. These advice books show how seniors in Japan are now increasingly urged to find contentment in old age as they themselves see fit, without concern over 'contributing to society.

Unsupervised Multi-Latent Space RL Framework for Video Summarization in Ultrasound Imaging.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for a tool to speed up triage in ultrasound scans and provide clinicians with fast access to relevant information. To this end, we propose a new unsupervised reinforcement learning (RL) framework with novel rewards to facilitate unsupervised learning by avoiding tedious and impractical manual labelling for summarizing ultrasound videos. The proposed framework is capable of delivering video summaries with classification labels and segmentations of key landmarks which enhances its utility as a triage tool in the emergency department (ED) and for use in telemedicine.

Simulations of multicomponent relativistic thermalization.

Multicomponent relativistic fluids have been studied for decades. However, simulating the dynamics of the particles and fluids in such a mixture has been a challenge due to the fact that such simulations are computationally expensive in three spatial dimensions. Here, we report on the development and application of a multidimensional relativistic Monte Carlo code to explore the thermalization process in a relativistic multicomponent environment in a computationally inexpensive way.

The Lived Experience of Learning Mindfulness as Perceived by People Living With Long-Term Conditions: A Community-Based, Longitudinal, Phenomenological Study.

While a considerable research base demonstrates the positive effects of 8-week secular mindfulness courses, it remains unclear to what degree their participants continue to engage with mindfulness practices; and there is a dearth of published reports on longer-term mindfulness interventions. Studies have also tended to focus on clinical "effectiveness," with less attention given to participants' own construal and expectations of mindfulness. To address these gaps, the study reported here implemented a year-long mindfulness program for a group of 20 individuals with long-standing health conditions who gradually transitioned to self-guiding.

The 2019 NHS England Long Term Plan set out the ambition to work across the 0-25 age range to support children and young people as they make the transition to early adulthood. Within this broad age bracket, how do we ensure we get health services right for 16-25 year-olds including the transfer to adult services? In this paper, we explore the evidence supporting youth-friendly and developmentally appropriate healthcare approaches and what these mean in practice for young people and healthcare professionals. Examples from primary and secondary care, as well as the perspectives of a young person, illustrate the challenges and solutions.

Water quality of runoff from flat panel display glass concrete during modified accelerated aging plus leaching tests.

Flat panel display glass (FPDG) from plasma televisions is difficult to recycle due to their heavy metal composition. When crushed, flat panel display glass has similar physical properties to sand and could be used as a recycled aggregate in concrete, if the potentially harmful metals in FPDG can be encapsulated. To replicate leaching from environmental exposure, at periodic points during freeze-thaw tests, samples of concrete with 0%, 10%, and 20% FPDG were exposed to simulated rainwater and the runoff water was analyzed.
