Influence of bone wax on bone healing: a case report and literature review.

The purposes of this article are to report the clinical case of a patient who exhibited a foreign body reaction associated with the use of bone wax after extraction of an impacted third molar and to present an integrative literature review addressing the possible influences of this hemostatic agent on bone healing. A 26-year-old woman who underwent the extraction of her mandibular right third molar developed intense alveolar bleeding during surgery, requiring the use of bone wax. In the 2-month postoperative period, the patient presented with intraoral edema and discharge of a purulent secretion via the alveolar route.

Analgesia and Side Effects of Codeine Phosphate Associated with Paracetamol Versus Oxycodone After the Extraction of Mandibular Third Molars: A Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trial Using the Split-Mouth Model.

Purpose: To assess the analgesia and side effects of 10 mg oxycodone as compared to 30 mg of codeine phosphate associated with 500 mg of paracetamol after bilateral lower third molar extraction.

Methods: This is a prospective, randomized, double-blind study applied to a sample of 16 patients. They were evaluated for seven days postoperatively, and the mean score of the visual analogue scale (VAS) of pain between test and control medications was assessed by the Wilcoxon distribution.

Reliability of panoramic radiography in predicting proximity of third molars to the mandibular canal: A comparison using cone-beam computed tomography.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the reliability of 7 panoramic radiographic signs for predicting proximity of the root apices of mandibular third molars to the mandibular canal using cone-beam computed tomography and to correlate these findings with the Pell and Gregory and the Winter classification systems.

Materials And Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted on 74 patients with bilateral impacted mandibular third molars. Four panoramic radiographic signs were observed in the tooth root (darkening, deflection, and narrowing of the root apices, and bifid apices), and another 3 in the mandibular canal (diversion, narrowing, and interruption of the mandibular canal).

Traumatic globe luxation associated with orbital fracture in a child: a case report and literature review.

Orbital fracture associated with traumatic globe luxation is rare, as it generally requires trauma with high energy for this to occur. The present case report focused on a child who had been hit by a motorcycle, leading to a globe luxation of the left eye and fractures of the superolateral orbital walls. The patient presented initial cosmetic and psychological benefits from the repositioning of the intact globe and the reduction of the orbital fractures.

An alternative technique using a gutta percha points and blue methylene to excision of congenital fistula of lower lip in patient with Van der Woude syndrome.

Van der Woude syndrome is a rare disorder of craniofacial development, characterized by the triad (congenital lip fistula, cleft lip and/or cleft palate). Discomfort caused by spontaneous or induced drainage of saliva/mucus when pressure is applied or during a meal as well as poor aesthetics match is one of the main complaints of patients with congenital lip fistula. This paper aims to describe an alternative technique for excision of the congenital fistula of lower lip in patient with Van der Woude syndrome, using gutta percha points and methylene blue for better identify the the fullest extent of the fistula.

Comminuted mandibular fracture in child victim of dog bite.

Dog bites represent lesions commonly found in Hospital Emergency Clinic. This type of lesion may cause severe harm to patients, but it rarely affects the underlying bone structure causes facial fracture. This study aims to illustrate a rare clinical case in which a pediatric patient presented a comminuted fracture in the mandible which evolved into a unilateral avulsion of the mandibular condyle, body fractures as well as a mandibular ramus and hemiface that had been deformed, with multiple lacerations and loss of soft-tissue mass.

[Prevalence and factors associated to overweight and obesity in public schools].

This study assessed the association between environmental factors and the prevalence of overweight and obesity in public schools. It was studied 480 students, by means of anthropometric measurements evaluation, weight and height--BMI by sex and age and in accordance with the parameters of WHO and IOTF. Environmental information was obtained using a questionnaire applied to students.
