Introduction: Treatments for Parkinson's disease (PD) focus on symptom reduction through dopaminergic therapies, without clear evidence of disease-modifying effects. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists may reduce neuroinflammation by decreasing microglia activation in PD. Clinical trials suggest these agents have disease-modifying potential in PD.

Small bowel bleeding (SB) comprises 5%-10% of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding cases. This article describes the staged retrograde intraoperative enteroscopy (SRIE) surgical technique for the etiological diagnosis and treatment of small bowel bleeding. SRIE was performed on patients with persistent SB at a quaternary university hospital in Brazil from 2020 to 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • - Five elephant garlic plants in Brazil exhibited symptoms of chlorotic streaks and mosaic, leading researchers to investigate potential viral infections by extracting and analyzing the total RNA from the plants.
  • - The RNA was sequenced using advanced techniques, resulting in 49 million raw reads, which were processed and assembled into 28,345 contigs before being matched against known virus genomes.
  • - The analysis identified three viruses: leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV), onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV), and allium polerovirus A (APVA), with nearly complete genomes successfully assembled and showing significant nucleotide identity with known isolates.

A new source of lipase from Bacillus sp. ITP-001 was immobilized by physical adsorption on the polymer poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) in aqueous solution. The support and immobilized lipase were characterised, compared to the lyophilised lipase, with regard to the specific surface area, adsorption-desorption isotherms, pore volume (V(p)) and size (dp) by nitrogen adsorption, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, chemical composition analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and biochemical properties.
