The COVID-19 pandemic significantly interrupted the grieving experiences of bereaved families and drastically changed their ways of dealing with loss. Our study aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the experience of bereaved relatives of patients who died in palliative care units during the COVID-19 pandemic. The phenomenological research design included sixteen family members of hospitalized palliative patients who died from November 2021 to June 2022.

Photoswitchable -functionalized tetrafluorinated azobenzene-modified siRNAs (F-azo-siRNAs) were synthesized using solid-phase phosphoramidite chemistry. The activity of an F-azo-siRNA targeting enhanced green fluorescence protein (eGFP) in transgenic (Tg) Japanese Medaka () was reversibly photocontrolled with blue (470 nm) and green (530 nm) light, to activate and inactivate the siRNA, respectively. Silver Complex Bearing N-Heterocyclic Carbene Bidentate Chelating Ligand as an Efficient Catalyst in Solvent-Free KA Coupling.

We report a synthesis of silver complexes bearing chelating bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene, with various substitutions at the terminal positions of the imidazole moiety of the NHC units. The long aliphatic substituents proved to be beneficial in terms of the synthetic efficiency of the complexes, compared to previously reported methyl substitution. The complexes demonstrated excellent suitability for the KA coupling reaction, providing quaternary carbon-containing propargylic amines in yields up to 95 %, under solvent-free conditions.

Our previous work demonstrated the presence of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) contamination in cow milk (CM) and soy beverages (SBs) in Portugal. These metals share carcinogenic mechanisms, suggesting at least additive effects. Our goals were to assess carcinogenic risks from Pb and Cd intake detected in various CM and SB brands on the Portuguese market and to determine the relative contributions of Pb and Cd.

Coumarins have great pharmacotherapeutic potential, presenting several biological and pharmaceutical applications, like antibiotic, fungicidal, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-HIV, and healing activities, among others. These molecules are practically insoluble in water, and for biological applications, it became necessary to complex them with cyclodextrins (CDs), which influence their bioavailability in the target organism. In this work, we studied two coumarins, and it was possible to conclude that there were structural differences between 4,7-dimethyl-2-chromen-2-one (DMC) and 7-methoxy-4-methyl-2-chromen-2-one (MMC)/β-CD that were solubilized in ethanol, frozen, and lyophilized (FL) and the mechanical mixtures (MM).

The European Health Data Space (EHDS) proposal aims to establish a set of rules and governance frameworks to promote the use of electronic health data for both primary and secondary purposes. This study aims at analysing the implementation status of the EHDS proposal in Portugal, particularly the points concerning the primary use of health data. The proposal was scanned for the points that gave member states a direct responsibility to implement actions, and a literature review and interviews were conducted to assess the implementation status of these policies in Portugal This study found that Portugal is well advanced in the implementation of policies concerning the rights of natural persons in relation to the primary use of their personal health data, but also identified challenges, which include the lack of a common interoperability framework for the exchange of electronic health data.

Septic Thrombophlebitis of the Internal Jugular Vein in an Immunocompromised Patient with Lemierre Syndrome: A Case Report.

Lemierre syndrome is a rare complication of oropharyngeal infection, especially acute pharyngotonsillitis, associated with septicemia and thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein (IJV). We present the case of a 52-year-old patient who underwent liver transplantation and returned with symptoms of pain, redness and left cervical bulging 1 month after surgery. After investigation, the diagnosis of septic thrombophlebitis of the IJV was made.

The goal of the present study was to determine the impacts of sampling small volumes of blood in larger-bodied fish on survival and healing.
