Telemedicine use by neurosurgeons due to the COVID-19 related lockdown.

Introduction: Due to COVID-19 related restriction, the use of telemedicine has increased tremendously. With this increase, an evaluation in the neurosurgical field seems appropriate.

Research Question: To what extent has telemedicine made its way in neurosurgical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Material And Methods: A 29-question survey was distributed among members of the congress of neurological surgeons regarding the respondents demographics the current level of COVID-19 restrictions, the current use of telemedicine and potential difficulties and consequences of telemedicine for patient care.

Authorship decision-making in the field of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

Purpose: To facilitate decision-making in authorship positions, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editor (ICMJE) developed a guideline that stipulates criteria authors should meet in order to merit authorship. Authors who did not meet these criteria and still enlisted as authors, are called 'honorary' authors. In this study, the prevalence and characteristics of honorary authorship (HA) is assessed in the field of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Honorary authorship in high-impact journals in anaesthesia and pain medicine.

Enlisting an author on a published paper, whose input was insufficient, is called honorary authorship. The aim of this study is to assess the proportion of honorary authorship in the field of pain medicine. Data were collected from seven high-impact journals.

Gender Differences Between Male and Female Neurosurgeons: Is There Equality for All?

Objective: Historically, women have been underrepresented in medicine but nowadays the underrepresentation is more applicable to surgical disciplines. Many efforts have been made to decrease the attrition rate of women in neurosurgery and to even career opportunities to be comparable to those of male colleagues. However, it is unclear if gender disparities occur between female and male neurosurgeons.

Osteoporosis in patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria.

Background: Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is a rare metabolic disease with painful photosensitivity due to protoporphyrin IX accumulation.

Objectives: To evaluate bone mineral density (BMD) and known osteoporosis risk factors in patients with EPP.

Methods: Patients with EPP attending the Erasmus MC outpatient clinic who had undergone BMD measurements were included.
