Background & Objectives: No validated questionnaires exist to examine the public's attitudes about epilepsy in Arabic in particular. Therefore, this study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Arabic version of the Public Attitudes Toward Epilepsy (PATE) scale.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, Egyptian Arabic-speaking adults aged >18 from different socioeconomic backgrounds were enrolled.

Background: Debridement, antibiotics and implant retention (DAIR) procedure is well-established as a management option for acute periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). We investigated the infection eradication rates of DAIR procedures at our center using Bactisure wound lavage.

Methods: A retrospective consecutive review of DAIR procedures for hip and knee PJI was conducted between 2018 and 2023 with a minimum 12-month follow-up at our tertiary revision arthroplasty center.

An interesting platform for the construction of novel ,'-bis(2-(arylazo)-2-(aroyl)vinyl)ethane-1,2-diamines is reported in this work. These bis-arylazo compounds were assembled based on the reaction of ethylenediamine with various 2-arylhydrazono-3-oxopropanals in aqueous conditions under both conventional stirring and microwave conditions at ambient temperature. The factors affecting the optimization conditions were intensively practiced.

Introduction: Textiloma, or gossypiboma, is a rare oversight in thoracic surgery involving retained surgical sponges, with the potential for serious complications like chronic pain and infection. This case highlights a 29-year-old woman with a transdiaphragmatic migrated gossypiboma following liver surgery.

Case Presentation: A-29 years old woman presented with dyspnea, abdominal pain, and fever, with imaging revealing a suspected hepatic abscess.

Background: The Attune TKR was introduced in 2011 as a successor to its predicate design The PFC Sigma. However, following reports of early failures, there are ongoing concerns related to increased loosening rates. Cementless TKA use as an alternative to cemented TKA in high BMI patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: Obesity is prevalent, with nearly one-third of the world's population being classified as obese. In patients with high body mass index (BMI)/body mass undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is an increase in strain placed on the implant fixation interfaces. As such, component fixation is a potential concern when performing TKA in the obese patient.

Evaluation of emergency skin decontamination protocols in response to an acid attack (vitreolage).

The incidence of "acid attacks" (vitreolage) is a global concern, with those affected often receiving lifelong medical care due to physical and psychological damage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of several emergency skin decontamination approaches against concentrated (>99 %) sulphuric acid and to identify the effective window of opportunity for decontamination. The effects of four decontamination methods (dry, wet, combined dry & wet and cotton cloth) were assessed using an in vitro diffusion cell system containing dermatomed porcine skin.

Failure of the Yoke With a Rotating-Hinge Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report.

Case: A patient underwent revision of a total knee replacement to a cementless rotating-hinge prosthesis. The femoral component became loose, but due to the patient's frailty and cognitive decline, revision was not performed. Subsequently, the yoke failed, dissociating the femoral and tibial components, necessitating a single-stage revision.

The photophysical and electrochemical properties of the new dumbbells were investigated using UV-vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and square wave voltammetry.

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate medium- to long-term outcomes and complications of the Stanmore Modular Individualised Lower Extremity System (SMILES) rotating hinge implant in revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) at a tertiary unit. It is hypothesized that this fully cemented construct leads to satisfactory clinical outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective consecutive study of all patients who underwent a rTKA using the fully cemented SMILES rotating hinge prosthesis between 2005 to 2018.

Assessment of Sleep Among Lebanese University Medical Trainees During Clinical Years and Association With Shifts, Psychological Stress, and Fatigue.

To determine the prevalence of sleep disturbance among Lebanese University medical students and residents during their clinical years and investigate associations with night versus day shifts, psychological stress, and fatigue. A single-center cross-sectional study was conducted with medical students in their sixth and seventh years of study as well as residents. A total of 226 medical trainees participated in the study.

Microwave-assisted chemoselective synthesis and photophysical properties of 2-arylazo-biphenyl-4-carboxamides from hydrazonals.

The reaction of 3-oxo-2-arylhydrazonopropanals with acetoacetanilide in an equimolar ratio, under DBU/1,4-dioxane/microwave irradiation reaction conditions, resulted in chemoselective formation of 4-arylazo-5-hydroxy-benzamide derivatives. The structures of the obtained biphenyl-4-carboxamides were characterized by several spectroscopic techniques including IR, H- and C-NMR, MS and HRMS, and X-ray single crystals of three examples. The photophysical properties of the new products were also evaluated, with a particular focus on their absorption and emission spectra, which provided valuable information regarding their optical properties.

End-tidal carbon dioxide's change to fluid challenge versus internal jugular vein dispensability index for predicting fluid responsiveness in septic patients: A prospective, observational study.

Background And Aims: The prediction of fluid responsiveness is crucial for the fluid management of septic shock patients. This prospective, observational study was conducted to compare end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) change due to fluid challenge (FC-induced ΔETCO2) versus internal jugular vein distensibility index (IJVDI) as predictors of fluid responsiveness in such patients.

Methods: Septic hypoperfused mechanically ventilated patients were classified as fluid responders (Rs) and non-responders (NRs) according to the improvement of left ventricular outflow tract-velocity time integral (ΔLVOT-VTI) after fluid challenge (FC).

The impact of a revision arthroplasty network on patient outcomes.

Aims: Revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) and revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) are complex procedures with higher rates of re-revision, complications, and mortality compared to primary TKA and THA. We report the effects of the establishment of a revision arthroplasty network (the East Midlands Specialist Orthopaedic Network; EMSON) on outcomes of rTKA and rTHA.

Methods: The revision arthroplasty network was established in January 2015 and covered five hospitals in the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire areas of the East Midlands of England.

Are postoperative blood tests always required after lower limb arthroplasty?

Aims: It is common practice for patients to have postoperative blood tests after total joint replacement (TJR). However, there have been significant improvements in perioperative care with arthroplasty surgery, and a drive to reduce the length of stay (LOS) and move towards day-case TJR. We should reconsider whether this intervention is necessary for all patients.
