Objective: Segmentation of brain sulci in pre-term infants is crucial for monitoring their development. While magnetic resonance imaging has been used for this purpose, cranial ultrasound (cUS) is the primary imaging technique used in clinical practice. Here, we present the first study aiming to automate brain sulci segmentation in pre-term infants using ultrasound images.

The proposal was developed through documentary analysis, literature review, and expert consultation.
Methods: The validation of the contents of the proposal was carried out using the Delphi technique, with the participation of 30 experts, male ( = 18) and female ( = 12), aged between 32 and 61 years ( = 42.
Throughout the family of coronaviruses, structured RNA elements within the 5' region of the genome are highly conserved. The fifth stem-loop element from SARS-CoV-2 (5_SL5) represents an example of an RNA structural element, repeatedly occurring in coronaviruses. It contains a conserved, repetitive fold within its substructures SL5a and SL5b.

However, the image's signal-to-noise ratio is low, and some form of classification is usually performed at the image processing level to allow structural modeling. Classical classification methods imply the existence of a discrete number of structural conformations.

These contacts explain why natural virions only package their positive-sense genomes. Asymmetric cryo-EM reconstructions of these VLPs suggest that interactions occur between amino acid residues in the N-terminal ends of the CP subunits and the gRNA PS loop sequences.

The clinical features of COVID-19 can range from an asymptomatic state to acute respiratory syndrome and multiple organ dysfunction. Although some hematological and biochemical parameters are altered during moderate and severe COVID-19, there is still a lack of tools to combine these parameters to predict the clinical outcome of a patient with COVID-19.

There have been notable efforts to standardize pediatric UDS nomenclature and technique, but no formal guidelines exist on essential elements to include in a clinical report. We sought to identify ideal structure and elements of a pediatric UDS assessment based on expert consensus.

Hypomethylating agents (HMA), such as azacitidine, have become standard-of-care therapy to treat myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloid neoplasms that can evolve into acute myeloid leukemia. However, our capacity to identify who will respond to HMAs, and the duration of response, remains limited.

Background: In intensive care units (ICUs), infections by multidrug-resistant (MDR) microorganisms should be monitored to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
Methods: From 2018 to 2020, we investigated all medical records of patients admitted to the ICU of a public university hospital. All patients colonized/infected by MDR microorganisms and submitted to active surveillance cultures (ASCs) were included.
This paper explores the efficacy of the cushion fitting technique using foam cut out cushions for off-loading bony prominences in the sitting position, with a particular focus on reducing the high risk of developing pressure injuries among aging wheelchair users. This technique, historically employed at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, has shown promising results in reducing pressure injuries for patients with spinal cord injuries. However, its widespread adoption remains limited.

To this end, we developed an integrated pipeline for high-throughput long-read sequencing, assembly, annotation and analysis of bacterial isolates and used it to generate a large genomic data set of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) isolates collected in Spain. The set of 461 isolates were sequenced with a combination of both Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) DNA sequencing technologies in order to provide genomic context for chromosomal loci and, most importantly, structural resolution of plasmids, important determinants for transmission of antimicrobial resistance.

Background: People in low-income countries, especially those with low socio-economic conditions, are likelier to test positive for SARS-CoV-2. The unequal conditions of public health systems also increase the infection rate and make early identification and treatment of at-risk patients difficult. Here, we aimed to characterize the epidemiological profile of COVID-19 patients in intensive care and identify laboratory and clinical markers associated with death.

The development of sulci and gyri allows for a considerable increase in the brain surface. In preterm newborns, these changes occur in an extrauterine environment that may cause a disruption of the normal brain maturation process.

Over the past decades, there has been an increase in the number of natural teeth that are maintained into older age, and this has represented an increase in the need for more complex dental treatment for this population. A trained workforce is needed in order to provide dental care to the different groups of elderly. Currently, the undergraduate training in gerodontology offered by dental schools seems to be limited, with great variation among dental schools worldwide.

In 2021, the Pan American Health Organization warned of the emergence and increase in new carbapenemase combinations in in Latin America. In this study, we characterized four isolates harboring and from an outbreak during the COVID-19 pandemic in a Brazilian hospital.

Unlabelled: Drought alters rice morphophysiology and reduces grain yield. This study hypothesized that the combined analysis of morphophysiological and agronomic traits enables a systemic approach to responses to water deficit, allowing the selection of resistance markers to upland rice. The objectives were to evaluate the effects of water deficit applied at the reproductive stage in plant water status, leaf gas exchanges, leaf non-structural carbohydrate contents, and agronomic traits in upland rice genotypes; and to verify if the analyzed variables may be applied to group the genotypes according to their tolerance level.

N = 300 primary caregivers of 1- to 3-year-olds filled out a parental questionnaire (IMpulse-MAnagement in the caregiver-child dyad, IMMA; Pauen et al., 2019) assessing (a) socio-demographic variables, (b) parental ideas and goals regarding children's self-regulation skills, (c) children's self-regulation strategies in dealing with internal challenges or demands, and (d) caregiver's regulation strategies.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, adolescents' routines were deeply affected, which negatively impacted their level of PA. Knowing the barriers to PA in adolescence is relevant, because the perception of more barriers is one of the most consistent negative correlates of PA participation. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the barriers perceived by adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic by sex, education level, PA level, and BMI.
