Objective: The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether low-dose exposure to benzene, an environmental pollutant to which male and female traffic policemen are daily exposed to could cause alterations in plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) levels.

Methods: From an initial sample of 1594 workers, we only selected 95 workers of whom study we knew the values of late-shift benzene and LH hormone. All subjects underwent biological monitoring (final blood benzene evaluation) and luteinizing hormone dosing.

In our systematic research we identified four studies concerning the onset of neurological adverse events following vaccination and two excluding this association. A 33-year-old Italian man, belonging to the Italian Army was hospitalized because he suffered from vertigo, nausea and sudden right hearing loss not classified (NDD), that set in 24 h after the administration of tetanus-diphtheria and meningococcal vaccines. Some neurological events arising after vaccination are very difficult to treat.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) still remains the main cause of morbidity and mortality and consequently early diagnosis is of paramount importance. Working conditions can be regarded as an additional risk factor for CVD. Since different aspects of the job may affect vascular health differently, it is important to consider occupation from multiple perspectives to better assess occupational impacts on health.

Background: Among the myriad of factors modulating quality of life assessments estimated in patients presenting a variety of cognitive impairments, the distinctive and critical influence of diet and exercise cannot be overestimated.

Objective: The objective of this study was to review the evidence to confirm the association between these health-endowering agents and cognitive performance in People With Dementia as well as providing a correlation between Mini Mental State Examination scores and available anthropometric data.

Methods: The authors tested the hypothesized correlation on a sample of subjects with instrumentally confirmed cognitive impairment using parameters as Body Mass Index and calf circumference.

The cognitive disability associated with stress in patients presenting cancer disease may exert a significant impact on the psychological health of the individual and even deteriorate the clinical diagnosis. The present study consists of a review of the available literature and an analysis of the association between psychopathologic disease and cancer by selecting useful contributions to the medicosocial discussion of the topic. Interesting considerations have emerged on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of the association between psychopathology and cancer that initiated possibilities towards a greater accuracy in the assessment of the patient that is not only limited to oncologic problems and outcomes.

Work-related stress may exert a negative impact on a variety of physical and psychological attributes relating to the health of employees and work organizations. Several studies conducted in Italy have shown that workers and employees who express less satisfaction show increased symptoms of obesity and cognitive disability. The latest evidence underlines the pathogenic relationship between stress and neurological disease through inflammatory neuro- immune activation.

Exercise, as a potent epigenetic regulator, implies the potential to counteract pathophysiological processes and alterations in most cardiovascular/respiratory cells and tissues not withstanding a paucity of understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms and doseresponse relationships. In the present account, the assets accruing from physical exercise and its influence upon executive functioning are examined. Under conditions of neuropsychiatric and neurologic ill-health, age-related deterioration of functional and biomarker indicators during healthy and disordered trajectories, neuroimmune and affective unbalance, and epigenetic pressures, exercise offers a large harvest of augmentations in health and well-being.

Unlabelled: Earliest notions concerning autism (Autism Spectrum Disorders, ASD) describe the disturbance in executive functioning. Despite altered definition, executive functioning, expressed as higher cognitive skills required complex behaviors linked to the prefrontal cortex, are defective in autism. Specific difficulties in children presenting autism or verbal disabilities at executive functioning levels have been identified.

Lesions of the digestive tract due to barotrauma resulting from compressed air application are not common, are rarely lethal, and largely affect the sigmoid and descending colon. Moreover, their pathogenic mechanism is a topic of discussion because these lesions have multiple characteristics. Here, the authors describe an autoptic case of death from lesions of the ascending and transverse segments, with perforations and bleeding suffusions as well as ischemic areas covered the colonic wall that was extremely thinned, congested, and hemorrhagic, with considerable flattening leading to disappearance of the mucosal folds and with numerous petechial hemorrhages.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac tumors were previously considered rare and had a poor prognosis, but surgical options improved with advancements in cardiopulmonary bypass.
  • Recent technological developments like echocardiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging have significantly enhanced preoperative diagnosis of these tumors.
  • This review aims to assist echocardiologists and forensic pathologists in effectively diagnosing and managing unexpected cardiac conditions, especially in young patients or during postmortem examinations.

Article Synopsis
  • Upper gastrointestinal bleeding poses significant risks for health, particularly in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.
  • There is ongoing debate about whether alcohol directly causes gastropathy or if it is more related to complications from cirrhotic portal hypertension.
  • An autopsy report on a 53-year-old cirrhotic patient highlights the serious impact of alcohol on the stomach lining, suggesting a need to reconsider the underlying reasons for gastric bleeding in these cases.

In clinical and legal cases some injuries found in living patient or dead body can give rise to difficulties of interpretation regarding the nature of the legally relevant formation mechanism. A field of study that offers often this issue is the brain hemorrhage that it could be traumatic or no traumatic. The authors propose a narrative review of the literature that enables us to recognize in the analysis of the kind of bleeding or type of associated lesions, useful and updated support tools for settlement of the case in question.

In France, the national breast cancer-screening program is based on mammography combined with clinical breast examination, and sometimes breast ultrasound for patients with high breast density. Digital breast tomosynthesis is a currently assessed 3D imaging technique in which angular projections of the stationary compressed breast are acquired automatically. When combined with mammography, clinicians can review both conventional (2D) as well as three-dimensional (3D) data.

Even if the rupture is the most common cause of death of patients with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and the risk increases with the presence and the size of IntraLuminal Thrombosis (ILT), there are cases in which death occurs for other causes. The Authors present an autoptic report of considerable size AAA with ILT in a patient who died by heart failure due to CAD thrombotic and ischemic heart disease. A protective role of approved in the literature and the role of products resulting from the thrombotic formation could explain the death event.

Myocardial Bridging (MB) is a benign condition that may be considered as a possible cause of ischaemic cardiopathy up to myocardial infarction. The authors describe the autopsy case of an MB of circumflex artery in a person with a myocardial infarction of the posterior wall of the left ventricle. In this case, the chronic ischemic heart disease can be explained by the congenital anomaly and in the literature there is scientific evidence to support the thesis.

The biological risk of Pseudomonas aeruginosa for activities involving exposure to contaminated water, such as, for example, routine maintenance of swimming pools, is related to the availability of effective prophylactic and therapeutic measures. The authors present the data of the microbiological analyzes made on 2349 samples taken from pools in Rome and province. The contamination by Pseudomonas was found in 191 samples with 13 samples that had a level > 100 cfu/100 ml and 5 samples with level > 200 cfu/100 ml.

Perinatal testicular torsion (PTT) is a very complex condition because of rarity of presentation and diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties. In presence of perinatal testicular torsion, the involvement of contralateral testis can be present also in absence of other indications which suggest the bilateral involvement; therefore, occurrences supported by literature do not exclude the use of surgery to avoid the risk of omitted or delayed diagnosis. The data on possible recovery of these testicles are not satisfactory, and treatment consists of an observational approach ("wait-and-see") or an interventional approach.
