One of the main types of uses of cellular materials is for energy absorption and dissipation in applications, such as safety and packaging, to protect people and goods during impact situations. In such cases, the use of cellular materials is justified by their capacity to largely deform under limited loads. This is often achieved, alone or within energy absorbing structures, with the additional advantage of cheap components that are relatively simple to manufacture and assemble.

This review aims to assess the current modelling and experimental achievements in the design for additive manufacturing of bonded joints, providing a summary of the current state of the art. To limit its scope, the document is focused only on polymeric additive manufacturing processes. As a result, this review paper contains a structured collection of the tailoring methods adopted for additively manufactured adherends and adhesives with the aim of maximizing bonded joint performance.

Objective: This work aims at investigating the influence of some front-end design parameters of a passenger vehicle on the behavior and damage occurring in the human lower limbs when impacted in an accident.

Methods: The analysis is carried out by means of finite element analysis using a generic car model for the vehicle and the lower limbs model for safety (LLMS) for the purpose of pedestrian safety. Considering the pedestrian standardized impact procedure (as in the 2003/12/EC Directive), a parametric analysis, through a design of experiments plan, was performed.
