Purpose: We hypothesised that the biological heterogeneity of sepsis may highlight sepsis subtypes with differences in response to intravenous vitamin C treatment in the Lessening Organ Dysfunction with VITamin C (LOVIT) trial. Our aims were to identify sepsis subtypes and to test whether sepsis subtypes have differences in treatment effect to vitamin C and describe putative biological effects of vitamin C treatment.
Methods: We measured biomarkers of inflammation, at baseline and at 7 days post-randomisation, in 457/863 (53.

Purpose: Highly sensitized patients (HSPs) with kidney failure have limited access to kidney transplantation and poorer post-transplant outcomes. Prioritizing HSPs in kidney allocation systems and expanding the pool of deceased donors available to them has helped to reduce their wait times for transplant and enhanced post-transplant outcomes. The Canadian HSP Program was established by Canadian Blood Services in collaboration with provincial organ donation and transplantation programs throughout the country to increase transplant opportunities for transplant candidates needing very specific matches from deceased kidney donors.

In this analysis of PROSPECT (Probiotics: Prevention of Severe Pneumonia and Endotracheal Colonization Trial), we describe patient enrolment patterns and examine factors influencing site-based monthly enrolment.
Design: Retrospective analysis of a multicenter RCT.
Olfaction is often neglected in psychiatric semiology, despite its clinical relevance and impact on social functioning. The olfactory reference syndrome (ORS), characterized by a false belief that a person emits a foul odor, causes severe distress and disrupts social functioning. This article aims to highlight the importance of olfaction in psychiatric semiology, with a focus on ORS.

Coronary revascularization is a highly resource-intensive angioplasty procedure involving numerous medical devices (MDs). Its consumption and associated costs are not covered by either the medical act classification (CCAM) or the hospitalization fees and additional MD funding.

Methods: 109 patients were prospectively included and underwent [F]FDG-PET/CT at baseline, after 7 weeks (PET1), and 3 months (PET2) of treatment. On PET1, tumor response was assessed using standard PERCIST criteria.
Background: The response of Canada's research community to the COVID-19 pandemic provides a unique opportunity to examine the country's clinical health research ecosystem. We sought to describe patterns of enrolment across Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-funded studies on COVID-19.
Methods: We identified COVID-19 studies funded by the CIHR and that enrolled participants from Canadian acute care hospitals between January 2020 and April 2023.
In order to become bioactive, proteins must be translated and protected from aggregation during biosynthesis. The ribosome and molecular chaperones play a key role in this process. Ribosome-bound nascent chains (RNCs) of intrinsically disordered proteins and RNCs bearing a signal/arrest sequence are known to interact with ribosomal proteins.

Any gene of interest can be potentially up- or down-regulated, making RNA-based technology the healthcare breakthrough of our era. However, the functional and specific delivery of siRNAs into tissues of interest and into the cytosol of target cells remains highly challenging, mainly due to the lack of efficient and selective delivery systems.

Nascent protein-ribosome contacts within the ribosomal exit tunnel were previously assessed mostly in the presence of C-terminal stalling sequences, yet little is known about contacts taking place in the absence of these strongly interacting motifs. Further, there is nearly no information about ribosomal proteins (r-proteins) interacting with nascent chains within the outer surface of the ribosome.

This study aimed to compare in oncology outpatients, immune-mediated adverse events (IMAEs) in terms of total number, incidence, severity, and time to occurrence, based on exposure to standard or extended interval ICIs. A retrospective cohort study was conducted in patients who received at least one dose of an ICI between 2015 and 2021.

Background: The burden of sepsis is high in India and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Vitamin C, an endogenous antioxidant, may improve patient outcomes.
Methods: This was a parallel-group pilot feasibility randomized controlled trial conducted at 2 intensive care units in India.
Chemical erosion, one of the two major erosion processes along with mechanical erosion, occurs when a soluble rock-like salt, gypsum, or limestone is dissolved in contact with a water flow. The coupling between the geometry of the rocks, the mass transfer, and the flow leads to the formation of remarkable patterns, like scallop patterns in caves. We emphasize the common presence of very sharp shapes and spikes, despite the diversity of hydrodynamic conditions and the nature of the soluble materials.

Objective: To determine whether vitamin C improves outcomes for patients with COVID-19.
Design, Setting, And Participants: Two prospectively harmonized randomized clinical trials enrolled critically ill patients receiving organ support in intensive care units (90 sites) and patients who were not critically ill (40 sites) between July 23, 2020, and July 15, 2022, on 4 continents.
Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is widely used in the manufacture of medical devices. The plasticizers added to PVC are potentially toxic for humans, likely to migrate, and thus unintentionally administered to patients. The objective of the present study was to reduce the migration of plasticizer (1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, diisononylester (DINCH) or trioctyltrimellitate (TOTM)) from PVC by implementing a three-step surface treatment process: (i) pretreatment with low-pressure argon cold plasma, (ii) polydopamine coating, and (iii) post-treatment with cold plasma exposure or thermal treatment at 140 °C.

To contribute to improving ADHD care in France, we assessed existing ADHD knowledge among medical doctors (MDs) and described associated care pathways in two large French regions in 2021. We produced tools to evaluate the regional impact of implementing a stepped-care pathway for ADHD.

Foot volume was measured in 29 healthy volunteers (58 feet, 24 females and 5 males) by a 3D scanner (UPOD-S 3D Laser Full-Foot Scanner®) and by water displacement volumetry. Measurements were performed on both feet, up to a height of 10 cm above the ground.

In our hospital, the recent acquisition of a robot (RIVA, ARxIUM) for intravenous cancer drug compounding obliged us to replace the previously used infusion devices. The objective of the present study was to assess and qualify the new intravenous sets prior to their use in our hospital and prior to the implementation of the compounding robot.

This exposure is a major issue because it is associated with reproductive and neurodevelopment disorders. The Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) population is at high risk due to the daily intensive medical interventions, the reduced ability of newborns to remove these contaminants and their higher sensitivity to endocrine disruptors.

The use of cold hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) has been shown to reduce the incidence of DGF in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs), especially when extended-criteria donors (ECDs) are used. HMP can also improve graft survival.
