Scleral Fixation of a Toric Lens to Treat Corneal Astigmatism in Eyes without Capsular Support.

Purpose: To describe surgical technique and report short-term visual outcomes after suture-fixation of a single-piece eyelet-toric (SET) intraocular lens (IOL) for treatment of concurrent aphakia and astigmatism.

Design: Retrospective, noncomparative, and non-consecutive case series.

Methods: This was a case series of eleven eyes who underwent successful SET.

Trabectome outcomes across the spectrum of glaucoma disease severity.

Baerveldt Scleral Patch Graft Abscess Secondary to Coagulase-Negative .

We report the case of a 69-year-old female who underwent a Baerveldt implant placement for severe-stage primary open-angle glaucoma and developed a bacterial infection of the conjunctiva and abscess of the scleral patch graft with subsequent tube exposure. The infection was identified 3 weeks postoperatively and a topical antibiotic was immediately initiated. A concurrent systemic staphylococcal infection was discovered by an outside physician and oral cephalexin was initiated.

Latanoprost-induced Skin Depigmentation.

Latanoprost, and other prostaglandin analogs, have been previously associated with increased pigmentary reactions on the periocular skin. Here, we present a patient with paradoxical depigmentation of periocular skin within 1 year of latanoprost use in both eyes. This report is the first to document such an association, and clinicians should be aware of this adverse effect and monitor for signs accordingly.

Vision retention in early versus delayed glaucoma surgical intervention in patients with Boston Keratoprosthesis type 1.

Importance: The loss of vision following Boston Keratoprosthesis (BKPro) surgery due to glaucoma occurs at a high frequency as diagnosis and management of glaucoma after this procedure pose challenges.

Objective: To compare visual outcomes in patients undergoing Boston Keratoprosthesis surgery with and without prior or concurrent glaucoma surgery.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This is a retrospective, observational cohort study of patients who underwent Boston Type I Keratoprosthesis surgery.

Case Series: Keratolimbal Allograft as a Patch Graft for Glaucoma Drainage Devices.

Purpose: Tube exposure remains one of the most common complications after glaucoma drainage device (GDD) implantation, despite various types of patch grafts available today. We present a 4 patient case series following the effectivity of the keratolimbal allograft (KLAL) as a patch graft for cases of tube exposure. Given its inherent population of stem cells, our hypothesis was that this highly replicative, biological tissue would provide an adequate means of glaucoma tube coverage.

Acute Onset Ocular Hypotony after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.

Importance: The purpose of this case report is to evaluate risk factors associated with post-coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) ocular hypotony compared to post-CABG ischemic optic neuropathy.

Observations: The patient described here is a single case at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, from July 2016. This case demonstrates the rare incidence of acute post-CABG ocular hypotony and vision loss in a patient with prior history of optic atrophy.

Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare, devastating infection that has been shown to be associated with colonic and hematologic malignancies. We present a case of clostridial endophthalmitis that resulted in expedient identification of colon adenocarcinoma.

Prevention of capsular bag opacification with a modified hydrophilic acrylic disk-shaped intraocular lens.

Purpose: To evaluate the stability and capsular bag opacification with a modified disk-shaped 1-piece hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) suspended between 2 complete haptic rings connected by a pillar of the haptic material and with a commercially available 1-piece hydrophilic acrylic IOL.
