Objectives: Research to develop early screening tools to determine an individual's risk of developing adult-onset disease is a growing field. Expectant parents may find themselves with an option in the future to undergo screening to determine not only genetic abnormalities in their child but also their risk of developing adult-onset non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as hypertension, obesity or hypercholesterolaemia. To ensure acceptability and feasibility of new screening tools researchers must work in partnership with healthcare consumers to discern consumers' current understanding and acceptance of these technologies in research and the potential for clinical applications.

Introduction: Sleep loss is common during the perinatal period; however, few studies have assessed potential consequences of insufficient sleep for postnatal emotional responding, a key contributor to parenting behaviors with implications for parent-infant bonding and mental health. To generate hypotheses for future work assessing perinatal sleep and emotion-related outcomes, this pilot study explored whether prenatal sleep duration predicted postnatal emotional responding in a sample at risk for postpartum depression.

Methods: Participants were nine birthing parents with a prior mood disorder who were not in a current episode at enrollment.

Introduction: Improved access to rehabilitation is highlighted as a key pathway to achieving the World Health Organisation's (WHO) goal of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all (Sustainable Development Goal 3). This article is the second in a two-part series outlining the findings from the Rehabilitation Choices study, which aimed to identify how health professionals and consumers in Australia are informed to make decisions about rehabilitation, and their experience with barriers and enablers to accessing that rehabilitation. In this study, we present the perspectives of consumers with different health conditions and a range of experiences with rehabilitation services.

This manuscript describes the Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC) international consensus guidelines updated at the last two ABC international consensus conferences (ABC 6 in 2021, virtual, and ABC 7 in 2023, in Lisbon, Portugal), organized by the ABC Global Alliance. It provides the main recommendations on how to best manage patients with advanced breast cancer (inoperable locally advanced or metastatic), of all breast cancer subtypes, as well as palliative and supportive care. These guidelines are based on available evidence or on expert opinion when a higher level of evidence is lacking.

Objective: Obesity is associated with alterations in eating behavior and neurocognitive function. In this study, we investigate the effect of obesity on brain energy utilization, including brain glucose transport and metabolism.

Methods: A total of 11 lean participants and 7 young healthy participants with obesity (mean age, 27 years) underwent magnetic resonance spectroscopy scanning coupled with a hyperglycemic clamp (target, ~180 mg/dL) using [1-C] glucose to measure brain glucose uptake and metabolism, as well as peripheral markers of insulin resistance.

For those facing the stages of being diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), the "call to advocate" is an immediate response to being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive disease that progresses rapidly, often in a matter of weeks or months. There is a great stigma and bias in the medical community that has inhibited the education and study of IBC.

Casitas B-cell lineage (CBL) syndrome is a rare RASopathy known to predispose to CBL-mutated juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) in childhood. Adulthood acute myeloid leukemia arising out of a genetic aberrancies consistent with prior CBL-mutated JMML has been twice previously described, but chronic myeloproliferative neoplasia has not. We present a case of progressive myeloproliferative neoplasm in adulthood in the context of CBL syndrome alongside a novel CSF3R variant.

Congenital localized cutaneous Langerhans cell histiocytosis in a Holstein calf.

Distinct solitary dermal nodules, either covered by an alopecic, or sometimes ulcerated, epidermis, were noticed on the head of a stillborn Holstein calf. The head was submitted for autopsy, and the nodules were found to consist of homogeneous, diffuse pale-yellow, soft-tissue masses with distinct margins that elevated the epidermis above the adjacent skin. Histologically, the dermal nodules were well-delineated on the deep margin approaching the cutaneous muscle and consisted of perivascular neoplastic infiltrates of round cells that in some places coalesced into sheets that extended into the dermis and subcutis.

Arsenic trioxide is an essential component of therapy for acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) and is currently dosed on actual body weight with no upper limit. Arsenic-induced neurotoxicity is a well-recognised complication; however, there is uncertainty about its relationship to arsenic dose and obesity. We conducted a large multicentre retrospective study of 487 patients with APL treated with arsenic-based therapy across 23 sites in Australia from 2008 to 2023.
