Hollow-core microstructured optical waveguides (HC-MOW) have recently emerged in sensing technologies, including the gas and liquid detection for industrial as well as clinical applications. Antiresonant HC-MOW provide capabilities for applications in refractive index (RI) sensing, while the long optical path for analyte-light interaction in HC-MOW leads to increased sensitivity of sensor based on Raman scattering signal measurements. In this study, we developed a two-in-one sensor device using HC-MOW for RI and Raman scattering detection.

Chromeno[2,3-]pyridines are substances demanded in medicinal and material chemistry. (pot, atom, and step economy) and in particular approaches are key green chemistry techniques that are applied for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. In this case, the approach was extended with 'component economy', as solvent was used also as reactant (solvent-involved reaction).

Dimethyl sulfoxide is a widely used solvent in organic synthesis and in the pharmaceutical industry because of its low cost, stability, and low toxicity. Multicomponent reactions are an advanced approach that has become an efficient, economical, and eco-friendly substitute for the conventional sequential multi-step synthesis of various biologically active compounds. This approach was adopted for the synthesis of previously unknown 2-(2,4-diamino-3-cyano-5-chromeno[2,3-]pyridin-5-yl)malonic acids via transformation of salicylaldehydes, malononitrile dimer, and malonic acid.

It has been shown that a single exposure to 171 MHz electromagnetic field with 180 V/m electric field strength and 0.04 mW/kg specific absorption rate significantly alters the Na+/Ca2+ exchange in the isolated rat heart. It is assumed that enhancement of the Na+/Ca2+ exchange towards removing Ca2+ from the cardiomyocytes electromagnetic field exposure is a result of Ca2+ extraction from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and the increase of its intracellular level.

The results of analysis of the literature publications suggest the necessity of experimental studies aimed at investigation of modulating effect of low-frequency magnetic fields on endocrine organs. The present study was carried out using 200 outbred white male rats (body weight 200-220 g). Corticosterone was measured in blood sera following the application of a low-frequency magnetic field (20 and 53 Hz with induction from 0.

Distribution of uranium (VI) between soil solids and solutions is a key parameter in assessing the risk to the biosphere of disposing uranium-rich waste products from nuclear plants as well as uranium (U) ore mining. Both of these topics have recently been brought to public attention in Mongolia. Regional background levels of soil elements are an important dataset for accessing the actual environmental situation and monitoring pollution levels.

UV-light and dexamethasone influence on functional properties of lymphocytes and neutrophils of peripherical donors' blood was studied. An increase of phagocytic activity of neutrophils was observed after their incubation with photomodified lymphocytes. It was found that UV-irradiation of lymphocytes activated synthesis of interleukines 1beta and 2.

The effect of stress factors (small doses of radiation and maximum temperatures in the econiche of the tested plants (tmax)) as well as aging on pea seeds, both acting independently and in combination, is estimated. Here we evaluate the influence of oxidizing stress on pea seeds in the laboratory (gamma-irradiated with 7 cGy at 0.3-19.

The electrophoretic behavior of the 111In-DTPA radiopharmaceutical has been investigated. The stability constant, diffusion coefficient and effective charge of the complex as well as the temperature dependence of the electrophoretic mobility were determined. No-carrier-added 111In with high specific activity was used in the electrophoretic experiments in ultramicroconcentrations (10(-9)M).

By using X-ray fluorescence analysis we have performed a comparative study of the trace elements content of phasic and tonic muscles of scallops. The phasic (yellow) muscles were found to be richer in Fe and Cu and more deficient in Zn, Br, and Sr, as compared with the tonic (white) muscles. No appreciable difference in the Rb content was revealed.

The differences in the content of trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn, Br, Rb and Sr) in phasic and tonic scallop adductor muscles have been revealed by using X-ray fluorescence analysis. The phasic (yellow) muscles have been found to be richer in Fe and Cu while more deficient in Zn and Br as compared to the tonic (white) muscles. No appreciable differences in the Rb and Sr content has been found.

To conduct large-scale medical examinations of the population with a view to detecting cardiovascular affections an experimental automated complex has been set up. The program of the examination to be instituted is largely drawn up conformable to recommendation of the WHO. In the complex are envisaged collection and registration of the data on the patient, biochemical analyses of the blood and urine, compilation of the case-history, anthropometric measurements and determination of the arterial blood pressure, ECG recording, veloergometric load test measurements, along with spirometric ones and the measurement of the subcutaneous fat layer thickness.
