Symbioses between metazoans and microbes involved in sulfur cycling are integral to the ability of animals to thrive within deep-sea hydrothermal vent environments; the development of such interactions is regarded as a key adaptation in enabling animals to successfully colonize vents. Microbes often colonize the surfaces of vent animals and, remarkably, these associations can also be observed intricately preserved by pyrite in the fossil record of vent environments, stretching back to the lower Paleozoic (Ordovician-early Silurian). In non-vent environments, sulfur isotopes are often employed to investigate the metabolic strategies of both modern and fossil organisms, as certain metabolic pathways of microbes, notably sulfate reduction, can produce large sulfur isotope fractionations.

Due to the low efficiency of immunotherapy for colorectal cancer (CRC), it is extremely promising and relevant to study the mechanisms of immunosuppression. A hydrogel biochip was developed for the simultaneous quantitative determination of sIgE for 21 allergens and total IgE in human serum. The biochips are manufactured by photoinduced copolymerization of different molecules (allergens and antibodies) with gel-forming monomers resulting in the formation of three-dimensional hydrogel elements (1nl gel drops). After incubation of the biochip with the serum, the results are visualized using fluorescently labeled anti-IgE antibodies.

A prototype of test-system for simultaneous quantitative assay of nine tumor markers in blood serum was developed. The main constituent of the test-system is OM-9 biochip containing immobilized antibodies against nine oncomarkers: α-fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), cancer antigen 125 (CA 125), cancer antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9), prostate-specific antigen, total (PSAtot) and free (PSAfree) forms, neuron-specific enolase (NSE). Based on literature and own original clinical data authors conclude that Ogilvie's syndrome is the form of dynamic obstruction of colon due to lesion of retroperitoneal neural nodes, heart failure and intoxication. Ogilvie's syndrome complicates therapeutic and surgical diseases. This syndrome can be manifested with acute abdomen symptoms and at 22% cases may be the cause of surgical treatment.

A method for evaluation of the functional activity of viral antigens in their interaction with antibodies, has been developed. The proposed index of the functional activity is the quantitative characteristic of the neutralization process as a whole. The results obtained with this method correspond to those of the seroepidemiologic test: the diagnostic agents prepared from tick-borne encephalitis virus strains and clones, known as functionally active, showed greater activity in comparison with the reference strain.
