Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) is a malignant proliferation of small lymphocytes, lymphoplasmocytoid cells and plasmocytes affecting the bone marrow, lymph nodes and spleen. Its incidence is 1/100,000 and represents 8% of all lymphomas. A total of ~5% of patients with LPL may secrete non-IgM of IgG, IgA, kappa or lambda type or be non-secretory.

Although increasing implementation of more powerful MRI scanners and artificial intelligence has led to the detection of previously unrecognizable lesions, in some cases even postoperative pathological evaluation of electrographically epileptogenic zones shows no structural alterations. While in temporal lobe epilepsy a standardized resection approach can usually be performed, the surgical management of extra-temporal lesions is always individual.

Sharp wave-ripple complexes (SPW-R) are observed in vivo during resting immobility, consummatory behavior and during slow wave sleep, and they have been proposed to support memory consolidation. It has been suggested that GABAergic cells play important roles in controlling incidence of sharp waves and of ripple frequency. We report here that the GABAB agonist baclofen reversibly suppresses SPW-R activity in rat hippocampal slices, presumably affecting the strength of neuronal coupling in the associative network of area CA3.

We hypothesized that BBB opening with consequent alterations of the extracellular electrolyte composition and extravasation of albumin facilitates generation of SDs since albumin mediates an astrocyte transcriptional response with consequent disturbance of potassium and glutamate homeostasis. Here we show extravasation of Evans blue-albumin complex into the hippocampus following cortical photothrombotic stroke in the neighboring neocortex.

Unfortunately, unlike SDs in healthy tissue, they are resistant to drugs such as N-methyl-d-aspartate-receptor antagonists. This drug resistance of SD in low perfusion areas may be due to the gradual rise of extracellular potassium before SD onset.
