Nε-Acetyl L-α Lysine Improves Activity and Stability of α-Amylase at Acidic Conditions: A Comparative Study with other Osmolytes.

Background: Nε-acetyl L-α lysine is an unusual acetylated di-amino acid synthesized and accumulated by certain halophiles under osmotic stress. Osmolytes are generally known to protect proteins and other cellular components under various stress conditions.

Objective: The structural and functional stability imparted by Nε-acetyl L-lysine on proteins were unknown and hence was studied and compared to other commonly known bacterial osmolytes - ectoine, proline, glycine betaine, trehalose and sucrose.

Sample complexity reduction aids efficient detection of low-abundant proteins from human amniotic fluid.

Working with biological fluids poses a challenge of visualizing proteins present in lower concentrations. This study describes a batch-mode chromatographic method for the fractionation of human amniotic fluid (AF). This method is easy to use with minimal sample quantity, resin volume and sample processing time.

Antifungal activity of some essential oils.

Thirteen essential oils recovered by steam distillation from Indian herbs were analyzed for their chemical compositions using GC and GCMS. The antifungal activity against plant and Food mold rot were examined in vitro using poison food technique. The essential oil from cymbopogan exhibited control over all the plant and food mold rot tested.
