We prepared three simple molecules, that we chose as representative examples of amphiphilic and bolamphiphilic amino acid derivatives: N-lauroyl-L-phenylalanine (Lau-Phe-OH), N-palmitoyl-L-phenylalanine (Pal-Phe-OH), N,N-azeloyl-L-diphenylalanine Az-(Phe-OH)2, to study the influence of the aliphatic side chain on the formation of supramolecular materials. We found that Pal-Phe-OH is a very efficient gelator in contrast with Az-(Phe-OH)2 that efficiently forms crystals, while Lau-Phe-OH forms metastable hydrogels that slowly become crystals. We demonstrated by X-ray diffraction that Lau-Phe-OH and Pal-Phe-OH easily form hetero-intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the carboxylic and amidic groups, while Az-(Phe-OH)2 forms homo-intermolecular hydrogen bonds, i.

Medium-sized scientific conferences held in hotels large enough to accommodate all participants increase opportunities for constructive discussion during breaks, and for evenings that bring together young and senior experts of basic sciences and clinical specialties. Time for group discussions offer opportunities for new collaborations and for jobs for young researchers. Since 1991 the Padova Muscle Days have offered collaborative opportunities that have matured into innovative multidisciplinary results to the point that it came naturally for us to underline it with a neologism now included in the title of the 2025 event: "Mobility Medicine".

Background: Lymphedema represents a frequent cause of disability for patients undergoing oncological treatments and, being a chronic, non-reversible pathology, requires targeted and continuous rehabilitation treatments. To date, the studies available on the use of ultrasound in patients with lymphedema mainly report descriptive data; therefore, with this study, we wanted to describe in a more objective way the typical ultrasound alterations found in these patients, measuring the thickness of the different superficial structures, and defining subcutis echogenicity.

Scoliosis is a three-dimensional spinal deformity characterized by a lateral deviation of at least 10° Cobb, categorized into idiopathic and non-idiopathic forms, caused by identifiable factors like congenital abnormalities, neuromuscular conditions, or genetic syndromes. This case report discusses a 15-year-old girl with growth delay and growth hormone (GH) deficiency who experienced rapid scoliosis progression. Initial evaluations were normal, and electroencephalography (EEG) showed nonspecific alterations, but further assessment revealed a MYH3 gene variant associated with scoliosis, short stature, and distinct facial features.

We report the gelation propensity of three gelators derived from l-dihydroxyphenylalanine (l-Dopa), where the amino group is derivatized with three different fatty acids (lauric acid, palmitic acid, and azelaic acid). The long aliphatic side chains should introduce additional van der Waals interactions among the molecules, contributing to the self-assembly process.
