Introduction: General surgery is a highly litigious specialty. Lawsuits can be a source of emotional distress and burnout for surgeons. Major hepatic and pancreatic surgeries are technically challenging general surgical oncology procedures associated with an increased risk of complications and mortality.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLiver cancer (LC) remains one of the major causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The Incidence, mortality, and prevalence associated with primary LCs were analyzed over the past decade, using GLOBOCAN 2012 and 2020, to understand the trends related to geographic and socioeconomic factors. While total cases of primary LCs continue to rise, global rates of LC incidence and mortality are slowing, mostly driven by changes seen in historically endemic regions.

Context: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is the most common cause of hypercalcemia, yet long-term (5- and 10-year) recurrence rates after curative surgery have been unclear.
Objective: To perform the first systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the long-term recurrence rates of sporadic PHPT after successful parathyroidectomy.
Methods: A comprehensive search of multiple databases (including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, EBSCO-CINHAL, EMBASE, Ovid, Scopus, and Google Scholar) was performed from each database's inception to January 18, 2023.

This case presents a patient with a diagnosis of metastatic colon cancer on second-line chemotherapy. He demonstrated increased HER2 expression and was placed on dual HER2 antagonists. The patient had excellent repose and was ultimately able to undergo definitive liver resection for cure.

Data on the perioperative mortality in this population are limited and contradictory. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the mortality of elderly patients after hepatectomy.

Methods: This longitudinal, retrospective cohort study analyzed all MEN1 patients with imageable functional (F) and nonfunctional (NF) DP-NENs (1990-2021) for liver metastasis-free survival (LMFS) and overall survival (OS).
Results: Of 138 patients, 85 (61.
Background: Data on morbidity and mortality following liver resection after radioembolization (Y90) are limited and controversial. Therefore, the perioperative morbidity and mortality of liver resections after Y90 treatment were investigated with systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: A PubMed search was conducted to identify studies of liver resection after previous Y90 treatment.
We present an unusual case of a 60-year-old female who developed subtle, new-onset left upper and lower extremity weakness on day five of perioperative thoracic epidural placement. The onset of a focal neurological deficit after epidural placement usually raises suspicion for the presence of an epidural hematoma, abscess, or traumatic cord lesion. However, in this patient, brain imaging revealed a large, previously undiagnosed intracranial mass.

However, it is often difficult to predict the risk of PHLF in an individual patient. We aimed to develop a preoperative nomogram to predict PHLF and allow better risk stratification before surgery.

Using long-term biochemical follow-up, we examined whether normal parathyroid hypercellularity correlates with multiglandular disease or primary hyperparathyroidism recurrence.
Methods: We reviewed all patients who from 2001 to 2015 had an initial operation for sporadic primary hyperparathyroidism with removal of 1 gland, routine normal parathyroid biopsy, intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring, and follow-up of ≥3 years.
Background: The recurrence rates and predictors of recurrence in patients with Solid Pseudopapillary tumors (SPT) are unclear, which makes it challenging to determine the duration of follow-up. The aim of the current study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the recurrence rates and pathologic factors associated with recurrence in patients with SPT.
Methods: A PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science search was conducted to identify studies of SPT published during the last 15 years: (09/2002-09/2017).
Background: Positive peritoneal cytology (Cyt+) even in the absence of macroscopic disease is associated with poor prognosis in patients with gastric cancer and deemed as M1 disease. Recent years have seen advancements in the evaluation strategies for peritoneal washings and management of patients with Cyt+. The aim of this review was to describe the newest paradigms in the management of patients with gastric cancer who have Cyt+ without macroscopic peritoneal metastases.

Adrenal venous sampling (AVS) has been previously reported to facilitate lateralization for guiding adrenalectomy. The aim of the current study was to investigate the utility of AVS using protocol from study by Young et al.

Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare variant of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Pathologically, it presents either as single cells or loose clusters masquerading in the background of pancreatitis.

Objective: To determine if technical variables during RPD are associated with postoperative DGE.
Background: Plexiform neurofibroma (PNF) in the porta hepatis (PH) is an unusual manifestation of neurofibromatosis-1 (NF-1). Resection is often recommended given the risk of malignant transformation. We encountered a challenging case in clinical practice which prompted us to report our findings and perform a systematic review on the management of these tumors.

This study aimed to compare neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX and G-nP in the treatment of resectable (R) and borderline resectable (BR) head PDA.
Methods: A single-institution retrospective review of R and BR patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy after NAT with FOLFIRINOX or G-nP was performed.
