L-citrulline (L-CIT), a precursor to L-arginine (L-ARG), is a key contributor to the nitric oxide (NO) signaling pathway. Endothelial dysfunction, characterized by deficient nitric oxide synthesis, is implicated in the pathogenesis of various neonatal conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) associated pulmonary hypertension (PH). This review summarizes the current evidence around the possible role of L-CIT supplementation in the treatment of these conditions.

Current treatment of FRIs entails debridement and 6 weeks of intravenous (IV) antibiotics. Lab data and retrospective clinical studies support use of oral antibiotics, which are less expensive and may have fewer complications than IV antibiotics.

Context: Knowledge gaps exist on the incidence and risk factors for developing pulmonary hypertension (PH) in preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and its impact on outcomes.
Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyse the incidence, risk factors and short- and long-term outcomes of BPD-PH in preterm infants.
Design: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL and CINAHL were searched for studies including infants<37 weeks gestational age (GA) or birth weight<2500 g with BPD-PH versus BPD-no PH from inception until 5 April 2023.
Autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, the clinical phenotype of which includes meningoencephalitis, myelitis, optic neuritis, seizures, movement disorders, autonomic dysfunction among others, affecting people across all ages. Due to its recent discovery, there is a paucity of literature on this topic and an absolute lack of Indian case series. This study aims to shed light on the variable presentations of anti-GFAP astrocytopathy and review the existing literature on the topic.

While the clinical manifestations caused by both species are similar, species-specific differences exist in environmental niches, disease epidemiology, and genomic content. One such difference is the presence of a genomic locus predicted to encode a capsule.

Objective: To describe pulmonary function, muscle strength and functional performance in the different qualities of sleep and the impact of this on the number of physiotherapeutic assistances.
Methods: This is an observational study. In the pre and post operative period, sleep behavior was evaluated using the Pittsburgh questionnaire.
Introduction: Sport officials are tasked with applying rules, maintaining fairness, and ensuring athlete safety. However, sport officials experience anxiety, burnout, and non-accidental violence, with the incidence of these events increasing worldwide. This has led to rising attrition rates among sport officials, with many sport organizations concerned for their operational capacity.

The primary virulence factor of Legionella is the expression of a type IV secretion system (T4SS), which contributes to the translocation of effector proteins that subvert biological processes of the host cells. Because of its evolution in unicellular organisms, T4SS effector proteins are not adapted to subvert specific mammalian signaling pathways and immunity.

Bronchial involvement in pulmonary actinomycosis is rare and has been reported in the literature rarely. However, these reports describe endobronchial actinomycosis secondary to foreign body aspiration (for example, a fish bone). Our case did not have any history or clinical evidence suggesting foreign body aspiration, which makes it even more rare.

Although a few preliminary studies have found delayed communication, fine motor, and problem-solving skills in infants after COVID-19 infection, there continues to be a paucity of data on long-term development of neonates diagnosed with COVID-19.
Methods: We conducted a prospective study of 20 neonates who acquired severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection during the first wave of the pandemic (April-July 2020).
Objective: Sepsis often prompts clinicians to start empirical antibiotics in suspected neonates while awaiting diagnosis. The next-generation testing with point-of-care (POC) techniques offers a lead-time advantage that could bridge the gap by providing a timely diagnosis.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a prospective diagnostic study in 82 neonates enrolled between May and October 2022 in a level III neonatal intensive care unit.
Objectives: To determine the incidence, risk factors, and accuracy of a previously published risk estimator in predicting Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in a very preterm cohort from India.
Methods: A single-center prospective observational study was conducted in preterm neonates born at 23-30 wk of gestation with a birth weight of 501-1249 g. The incidence and risk factors of BPD were evaluated, and the accuracy of BPD prediction at six pre-specified time points using the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) BPD risk estimator was assessed by comparing the estimated risk with the observed rates.
Donor human milk (DHM) from the human milk bank (HMB) is the next best alterative in circumstances when mother's own milk is not available. There was a steep decline in the volume of DHM collected during the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic due to various factors, while DHM demand increased. Hence, a quality improvement (QI) study was conducted to increase the volume of milk donation to HMB from postpandemic baseline of 300-400 to 1,000 mL/day over 8 weeks.

The causative agent of human Q fever, is highly adapted to infect alveolar macrophages by inhibiting a range of host responses to infection. Despite the clinical and biological importance of this pathogen, the challenges related to genetic manipulation of both and macrophages have limited our knowledge of the mechanisms by which subverts macrophages functions. Here, we used the related bacterium to perform a comprehensive screen of effectors that interfere with innate immune responses and host death using the greater wax moth and mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages.

Incisional negative pressure wound therapy (INPWT) has been used in other surgical fields to reduce SSI. Our purpose was to examine the prophylactic use of INPWT after NMS surgery to decrease SSI.

However, recent research has shown phase error due to the effective sound speed approximation (ESSA). To overcome these limitations, a new PE formulation derived without the ESSA has been proposed recently.

The initial cases were described in the adult population followed by sporadic cases in the pediatric population also. By the end of 2020, similar reports were recognised in the neonatal age group.

Here, we report that SARS-CoV-2 induces upregulation and activation of human caspase-4/CASP4 (mouse caspase-11/CASP11), and this process contributes to NLRP3 activation. In vivo infections performed in transgenic hACE2 humanized mice, deficient or sufficient for Casp11, indicate that hACE2 Casp11-/- mice were protected from disease development, with the increased pulmonary parenchymal area, reduced clinical score of the disease, and reduced mortality.

Aim: To determine the clinical characteristics, complications and short-term outcome in neonates receiving TH in King Edward Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India.
Methods: A retrospective single-centre study of neonates with moderate-to-severe HIE who received TH from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021 was undertaken.
The proposed sound synthesis tool converts a physics-based frequency-domain model of wind turbine trailing edge noise to a time-domain signal while accounting for the appropriate time shift due to the propagation between the moving blades and the fixed observer. A window function that implements cross-fading between consecutive signal grains is proposed and a method to objectively estimate the influence of the synthesis parameters is described. As the synthesis tool is independent of the aerodynamic noise model, it can be readily adapted to auralize other noise sources such as turbulent inflow noise or stall noise.

Immodulins from the 3/5/6 (but not 1/2/4) IGFBP evolutionary clade transduce extracellular matrix (ECM) signals to RXR, NR4A1 and PPAR-alpha nuclear receptors (NRs) to stimulate novel macrophage lineages. The rationale of this study was to reconcile physical associations of immodulins with ECM and NRs, effects of siRNAs and chemical inhibitors in vivo, and immodulin-driven pro-differentiation effects in cell culture.
