Article Synopsis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs, and its link to vaccinations, including the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, is still being studied.
  • In a case report, a 53-year-old man was diagnosed with SLE just 9 days after receiving a third dose of the mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, highlighting a potential connection between vaccination and SLE onset.
  • Patients with pre-existing immunological issues or a family history of autoimmune diseases appear to be at higher risk of developing SLE shortly after receiving the vaccine, suggesting type I interferon may play a role in this process.
