Article Synopsis
  • The study measured levels of platelet-derived microparticles (PDMP) in patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis (PM/DM) using an ELISA method to investigate platelet activation.
  • Active PM/DM patients showed significantly higher PDMP levels compared to both treated patients and healthy controls, indicating a potential role of platelets in the disease's inflammatory process.
  • A reduction in PDMP levels was observed after glucocorticoid treatment, and significant correlation with serum C-reactive protein levels suggests PDMP could serve as a useful marker for monitoring inflammation in PM/DM patients.
