Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and to examine the number of oral medicines based on the swallowing function and activities of daily living (ADL) categories in a geriatric medical care ward.

Methods: A prospective investigation of oral medication use of 124 consecutive patients (male, n=58; female, n=66) admitted to a geriatric medical care ward was conducted from November 2019 to October 2020. Nutritional routes and ADL categories were quantitatively assessed, and the respective medication quantities were subjected to a statistical analysis.

Bony mallet injury of the hallux is uncommon. In the few reports of this injury, authors have described surgical treatments such as closed reduction with percutaneous pinning and open surgical fixation with Kirschner wires or a suture anchor. It is challenging to reconstruct normal hip motion after a high hip dislocation. Although total hip arthroplasty (THA) with shortening osteotomy is a solution for high hip dislocation, osteotomy nonunion is a major complication. To improve the rate of osteotomy union, subtrochanteric transverse shortening osteotomy was performed using a modular-type stem, S-ROM, that can be fixed to both the proximal and distal parts of the femur individually with a stepped proximal sleeve and polished distal flutes with fins, respectively.
