We report the physical properties of a new class of triarylmethyl-based carbocations containing both an electron-donating diphenyl ether moiety and an electron-accepting carbonyl group with a helical plane framework. Their unique packing patterns were clarified by X-ray crystallographic analysis, which depend on the counter anions to influence their photophysical properties in the solid states. Notably, the interactions between π-cation species and planar anion species lead to a unique panchromatic property, accompanying a near-infrared absorption with a λ value of 1030 nm, which can be assigned to intermolecular charge transfer transition.

Aims: To compare the predictive abilities of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-corrected BMI (wBMI), a body shape index (ABSI), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) for the incidence of type 2 diabetes and determine the practical cut-off values for the Japanese population.

This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of broadband and audible band music on relaxation states and cognitive function in young adults.
Methods: A single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in a professional soundproof laboratory from December 22, 2022, to January 18, 2023 with 32 participants randomly assigned to two groups, "Day 1 broadband + Day 2 audible band" (n = 16) and "Day 1 audible band + Day 2 broadband" (n = 16), listening to either broadband or audible band music (the same music piece played on the piano and harp) for two sessions of 15 min each on two consecutive days.
Background: Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase isoform 4 (PDK4) plays a pivotal role in the regulation of cellular proliferation and apoptosis. The objective of this study was to examine whether the genetic depletion of the PDK4 gene attenuates hyperoxia-induced lung injury in neonatal mice.

In this study, we discovered that commercially available benzene-1,4-diboronic acid (BDBA) doped co-crystals with trimethylolpropane (TMP) exhibit excellent thermochromic dual phosphorescence properties over a wide temperature range from -132 to 40 °C, despite its simple structure that does not have any donor-acceptor linkage. Among aqueous electrolytes examined, K-based ones exhibit the highest rate performance, which is caused by the highest mobility of the smallest hydrated K ion not only in the aqueous electrolyte but also in the electrode. Since the use of a counter electrode with insufficiently small pores for the full-cell configuration offsets this merit, our study may lead to a conclusion that the maximum rate performance for aqueous batteries will be accomplished only through further elaboration of both electrode materials with sufficiently large pores, in which hydrated ions can travel equally fast as those in the electrolyte.
