High glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody titers may be associated with a decline in β-cell function over time and future insulin deficiency in latent autoimmune diabetes in adults.

Aims: Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is characterized by positive islet-associated autoantibodies including glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody (GADA), and gradual decline in insulin secretion, progressing to insulin dependency. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine whether GADA by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (GADA-ELISA) titer of ≥180 U/mL could be associated with decline in β-cell function in participants with LADA.

Methods: Sixty-three participants with LADA were recruited and an association between insulin secretion capacity and disease duration was investigated.

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Patients Who Live Alone.

It has been shown that living alone is one of the risk factors for unfavorable outcomes in ischemic stroke patients, mostly due to delay in receiving appropriate treatment. A single-center retrospective observational study was conducted to evaluate whether living alone was associated with unfavorable outcomes in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients. Among 451 SAH patients admitted to our institution between January 2013 and December 2022, 43 patients who lived alone had sustained SAH at home (group A) and 329 patients who lived with family had sustained SAH at home (group F).

Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Occurring after Craniotomy for Brain Tumor Biopsy Mimicking Postoperative Bleeding.

In this study, we report on a previously healthy 44-year-old man who underwent an open biopsy under general anesthesia for a tumorous lesion found in his left frontal lobe via a small supratentorial craniotomy. While both postoperative course and brain computed tomography (CT) scans had been considered unremarkable, the patient became stuporous on postoperative day (POD) 4. A brain CT obtained on that day showed a subdural hematoma with marked brain shift which we thought might have been due to postoperative bleeding; he was immediately brought to an operating theater for hematoma removal.

The effect of doping a molecular spin ladder with non-magnetic impurities.

Since carrier doping of two-leg spin ladders can theoretically induce a superconductive state, investigation of such systems is of great use in the study of superconductivity. In this paper, we report the successful creation of a non-magnetic impurity doped into a two-leg molecular spin ladder and the characterization of its magnetic properties.
