Using the DNA Integrity Number to Analyze DNA Quality in Specimens Collected from Liquid-Based Cytology after Fine-Needle Aspiration of Breast Tumors and Lesions.

Introduction: Cancer genome analysis using next-generation sequencing requires adequate and high-quality DNA samples. Genomic analyses were conventionally performed using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections rather than cytology samples such as cell block or smear specimens. Specimens collected from liquid-based cytology (LBC) have the potential to be sources of high-quality DNA suitable for genetic analysis even after long-term storage.

A case of metachronous oligo-hepatic and peritoneal metastases of pancreatic cancer with a favorable outcome after conversion surgery combined with perioperative sequential chemotherapy.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies, and the prognosis for its recurrence after surgery is very poor. Here, we report a case of metachronous oligo-hepatic and peritoneal metastases in a patient who survived without recurrence for 3 years after conversion surgery combined with perioperative sequential chemotherapy using gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel (GnP) and modified FOLFIRINOX (mFOLFIRINOX). The patient was a 70-year-old man with pancreatic ductal carcinoma, classified as cT3N0M0, cStage IIA, who underwent a distal pancreatosplenectomy.

Autopsy-Confirmed Undifferentiated Carcinoma of the Liver With Rapid Bone Metastasis.

A male in his late 70s, with progressive hip pain, was diagnosed with a metastatic iliac bone tumor, initially misinterpreted as septic arthritis. Despite extensive imaging, the primary tumor site was undetected until autopsy, which confirmed undifferentiated carcinoma of the liver with secondary lung involvement. The patient's poor performance status and rapid health decline precluded aggressive treatment, leading to his demise.

The granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) glycoprotein stimulates precursor cell proliferation and differentiation in the bone marrow. Various G-CSF-producing tumors have been reported; they showed early progression and an extremely poor prognosis. Here, we report a case of G-CSF-producing gallbladder cancer with lymph node metastasis.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome complicated by gastric-type cervical mucinous carcinoma and primary peritoneal carcinoma.

A 45-year-old multiparous woman with a STK11 mutation and a history of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome underwent radical hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for a gastric-type cervical mucinous carcinoma. Four and a half years later, blood tests revealed elevations in CEA and CA125 tumor marker levels, and computed tomography showed multiple calcifications in the peritoneum. Peritoneal dissemination was suspected, and a laparoscopic biopsy was performed.

Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy with or without Concurrent Hormone Therapy in Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer: NACED-Randomized Multicenter Phase II Trial.

Although in the neoadjuvant setting for estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancers, chemotherapy or hormone therapy alone does not result in satisfactory tumor response, it is unknown whether concurrent chemo-endocrine therapy is superior to chemotherapy alone in clinical outcomes. We conducted a randomized phase II trial to test the responses of ER-positive patients to concurrent administration of chemo-endocrine therapy in the neoadjuvant setting. Objective: Neurocognitive impairment (NCI) has been intensively studied in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, those studies have mostly included patients who were treated with corticosteroids, which may itself induce NCI. We investigated NCI in corticosteroid-naive people with SLE who did not exhibit any overt neuropsychiatric manifestations.

New-onset psychiatric disorders after corticosteroid therapy in systemic lupus erythematosus: an observational case-series study.

The objective of this study was to clarify the incidence, clinical characteristics, and courses of new-onset psychiatric manifestations after corticosteroid therapy in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), including possible ways of differentiating between corticosteroid-induced psychiatric disorders (CIPDs) and central nervous system manifestations of SLE (CNS-SLE). Infantile cervical intramedullary cavernous angioma manifesting as hematomyelia. Case report.

A 2-month-old infant presented with a cervical intramedullary spinal cord cavernous angioma manifesting as left hemiparesis caused by hematomyelia. Osteoplastic laminotomy of the cervical spine was carried out with subsequent microsurgical excision of the intramedullary spinal cord cavernous angioma. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed no residual tumor.

Angiosarcoma of the breast is an aggressive malignancy of endothelial origin with a tendency for local regional recurrence. The involvement of angiosarcomas in the bilateral breasts has rarely been documented. Of note, due to its rarity and typically unclear clinical findings upon examination, the diagnosis of a contralateral lesion can be difficult, particularly in women during pregnancy.

Taurine chloramine: a possible oxidant reservoir.

Taurine is abundant in polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) where it reacts with PMN-derived hypochlorous acid to form taurine chloramine (Tau-NHCl), a substance that does not readily cross the cell membrane. When PMNs were stimulated in PBS lacking taurine, extracellular oxidant concentration was low, but the concentration increased 3-4 fold when 15 mM taurine was added, indicating that taurine lowers oxidant levels inside the cell. When Tau-NHCl was added to Jurkat cells in suspension, its half life was about 75 min.
