Optimizing the composition of (Ce,La)(Co,Fe)for permanent magnet applications using density functional theory.

In this work, we calculated physical quantities, including the magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant () and magnetization (), for disordered (Ce,La)(Co,Fe)systems. Based on the results, we propose CeCoFeas the optimum composition for high-performance permanent magnets. The calculations employed the full-potential Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker Green's function method, and dealt with the compositional disorder of the systems within the coherent potential approximation.

Mortality from gastric cancer in patients followed with upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Objective: Although commonly practiced in Japan, the effectiveness of regular screening with upper gastrointestinal (UGI) endoscopy against gastric cancer has not been well evidenced. The aim of the study was to investigate if gastric cancer-related mortality can be reduced by regular endoscopy.

Material And Methods: The medical records of 833 patients with gastric ulcer (GU) and 2547 without ulcer (NU) were analyzed; these patients received long-term, repeated endoscopic examinations between 1969 and 2004.

Helicobacter pylori evolution: lineage- specific adaptations in homologs of eukaryotic Sel1-like genes.

Geographic partitioning is postulated to foster divergence of Helicobacter pylori populations as an adaptive response to local differences in predominant host physiology.
