Complete regression of branching vascular network in polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy by ranibizumab and photodynamic therapy, two case reports.

Background: Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) consists of polyps that potentially cause massive subretinal hemorrhage and their branching vascular network (BVN) of feeder vessels. Although conventional indocyanine green angiography (IA) has shown anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents and/or photodynamic therapy (PDT) to successfully induce polyp closure, the BVN appears resistant to these therapies and serves as the origin of recurrent active polyps. Recently introduced optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) enables more frequent angiographic evaluation of polyps and the BVN than does conventional IA since it does not require intravenous fluorescent dye injection and is thus considered non-invasive.

Delineation of capillary dropout in the deep retinal capillary plexus using optical coherence tomography angiography in a patient with Purtscher's retinopathy exhibiting normal fluorescein angiography findings: a case report.

Background: Fat embolism in the deep retinal capillary plexus is one of the reported mechanisms underlying central/paracentral scotoma in patients with Purtscher's retinopathy. Here we report the clear delineation of capillary dropout in the deep capillary plexus using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in a chronic case of unexplained scotoma that developed after femoral fracture. The patient exhibited normal fluorescein angiography (FA) findings and a normal retinal appearance.

Quick Referral and Urgent Surgery to Preempt Foveal Detachment in Retinal Detachment Repair.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the consultation and referral pathway and benefit of urgent surgery within 24 hours of outpatient clinic presentation on increasing the ratio of eyes with fovea-on at surgery and visual outcomes in retinal detachment cases.

Design: This is a retrospective, interventional case series.

Methods: A total of 106 eyes underwent an operation for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

Characteristics of visiting nurse agencies with high home death rates: A prefecture-wide study in Japan.

Aim: The purpose of the present study was to identify characteristics of visiting nurse agencies (VNA) in Japan with high home death rates by a prefecture-wide survey.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of visiting nurse agencies (n = 101) in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, was completed. Data included the basic characteristics of each VNA, the type of services provided, level of coordination with other service providers, total number of VNA patients who died per year and place of death and contractual relationship with home-care supporting clinics providing end-of-life care services in the home 24 h a day.

Effect of ferulic acid and Angelica archangelica extract on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in frontotemporal lobar degeneration and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Aim: The behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia place a heavy burden on caregivers. Antipsychotic drugs, though used to reduce the symptoms, frequently decrease patients' activities of daily living and reduce their quality of life. Recently, it was suggested that ferulic acid is an effective treatment for behavioral and psychological symptoms.

A case of antiphospholipid syndrome with cutaneous ulcer and intrauterine fetal growth retardation.

A 28-year-old patient presented with severe intrauterine fetal growth retardation (IUGR) at 34 weeks' gestation. There was a prior history of a recurrent cutaneous ulcer on the left thigh. Serological tests for IgG anticardiolipin antibody were positive.
