Background/aim: A combination therapy of esophageal stent and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is currently considered risky for severe complications. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of a fully covered self-expandable metallic stent (FCSEMS) placement in palliating incurable esophageal cancer before and/or after CRT.

A 67-year-old man who was hospitalized at a mental hospital because of schizophrenia was admitted to our hospital with a complaint of dysphagia and vomiting. He was found to have advanced cancer in the middle thoracic esophagus. With the cooperation of a radiologist, a psychiatrist, and a nurse, we successfully performed chemoradiation therapy with S-1 and CDDP.

Background: Axillary lymph node (ALN) status is an important prognostic factor for breast cancer. We retrospectively used contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) to evaluate the presence of ALN, metastasis based on size, shape, and contrasting effects.

Methods: Of 131 consecutive patients who underwent CE-CT followed by surgery for breast cancer between 2005 and 2012 in our institution, 49 were histologically diagnosed with lymph node metastasis.
