Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is the initial, rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolism of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). DPD expression levels are believed to correlate with the 5-FU sensitivity of malignant tumors. In colorectal cancer (CRC), a few previous studies demonstrated that females could benefit more from adjuvant chemotherapy.
