[A Case of Survival Following Fourth-Line Outpatient Chemotherapy 19 Months after Surgery for Small Intestinal Cancer with Multiple Liver Metastases in a Patient with Good General Condition].

A 59-year-old woman who complained of melena and lightheadedness visited the outpatient clinic at our hospital.According to her blood test result, she had anemia, and her tumor marker levels were high.Enhanced computed tomography(CT) findings showed small intestinal cancer with multiple liver metastases.

Rare Case of Synchronous Cystic Duct Metastasis from Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Introduction: The common metastatic sites of renal cell cancer (RCC) are the lung, bone, liver, brain, adrenal glands, and contralateral kidney. Metastasis to the gallbladder is rare, and cystic duct metastasis from RCC has been reported in only one metachronous case. This is the first report of a case of synchronous cystic duct metastasis from RCC.

[A case of multiple primary small intestinal adenocarcinomas].

A 62-year-old woman, with a past history of long-term non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug use and gastric ulcer, was hospitalized for intestinal obstruction in April 2012. Two stenoses were identified in the ileum in association with small intestinal ulcers, and she underwent partial resection of the small intestine. Histologically, the two lesions were poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas; metastatic small intestinal cancer was suspected, but whole body examination revealed no other lesions.

Preparation of chitin nanofibers with a uniform width as alpha-chitin from crab shells.

Chitin nanofibers were prepared from dried crab shells by a simple grinding treatment in a never-dried state under an acidic condition after the removal of proteins and minerals. The obtained nanofibers were observed by FE-SEM and found to have a uniform width of approximately 10-20 nm and high aspect ratio; both these findings were similar to those for nanofibers from prawns. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the nanofibers were extracted from the natural chitin/protein/mineral composites of crab shell in their original state.
