Introduction: Understanding the diverse pathogenetic pathways in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is crucial for improving outcomes. microRNA (miRNA) profiling is a promising strategy for elucidating these mechanisms.
Objective: To characterize the pathogenetic pathways linked to OSA through the integration of miRNA profiles, machine learning (ML) and bioinformatics.
Rationale: Although obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent condition among patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), the impact of OSA on cardiovascular event (CVE) recurrence is not homogeneous. We previously defined a specific phenotype of first-ACS patients without previous cardiovascular disease who are at increased risk of OSA-related CVE recurrence. However, the pathobiological mechanisms whereby OSA leads to adverse cardiovascular outcomes in this singular ACS phenotype remain to be investigated.

The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is high in RH patients, and it could contribute to SOD. We aimed to investigate how OSA and its treatment are related to SOD in a large cohort of RH patients.

Methods: To address this gap, we recruited 478 RH patients from hypertension units and followed them prospectively after they were screened for OSA through a sleep study.
Study Objectives: To evaluate the impact of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy on body mass index (BMI) in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Methods: A systematic review using the following terms: "obesity hypoventilation syndrome" AND "treatment" AND "randomized" using Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline and Web of Science was performed from the first data available until February 10, 2023. The inclusion criteria were: (1) original article; (2) adult OHS with concomitant OSA (apnea-hypopnea index or AHI ≥5 events/h); (3) randomized trial with PAP arm and standard care (control); (4) BMI evaluation at baseline and after the first months.
Background: OSA has been associated with increased incidence and aggressiveness of melanoma. However, the long-term impact of OSA and CPAP treatment on the prognosis of melanoma remains unexplored.
Research Question: Are OSA and CPAP treatment associated independently with a poor prognosis for cutaneous melanoma?
Study Design And Methods: Four hundred forty-three patients with a diagnosis of cutaneous melanoma (2012-2015) underwent a sleep study within 6 months of diagnosis.
We characterized the polysomnography (PSG) parameters associated with alterations in the circadian blood pressure (BP) pattern aiming to identify the main contributors to explain the nondipper profile in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This is an observational prospective-multicenter study that included participants referred to the sleep unit for suspected OSA. Following a PSG study, subjects with an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) ≥5 events/hr were included.

However, the pathological pathways by which OSA promotes this deleterious role are unknown. We aim to explore the proteomic profile associated with OSA that promote the recurrent CVE risk in severe OSA patients with ACS without previous cardiovascular diseases.

Because of their amenability to de novo reticular chemistry, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become key materials in this area. However, their usefulness is often limited by low chemical stability, conductivity and inappropriate pore sizes.

The AHI is a simplistic measure that is inadequate for capturing disease severity and its consequences in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Deleterious effects of OSA have been suggested to influence the prognosis of specific endotypes of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

To explore the long-term effects of OSA and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment on blood pressure (BP) in patients with ACS. analysis of the ISAACC study (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Obstructive Sleep Apnea; NCT01335087) included 1,803 patients admitted for ACS.

NIV is costlier, but may be advantageous because it provides ventilatory support. However, there are no long-term trials comparing these treatment modalities based on OHS severity.

Only nondipper normotensive and hypertensive patients exhibited BP reductions when treated with CPAP; the baseline BP dipping pattern has been proposed as a predictor of BP response to CPAP but has never been explored in patients with RH. This study aimed to assess the effect of CPAP on BP in subjects with RH with respect to BP dipping pattern or nocturnal hypertension.

Introduction: Respiratory high dependency units (RHDUs) set up in European countries in the last decade are based on being a transitional step between the intensive care units (ICUs) and the conventional hospital ward in terms of staffing, level of monitoring, and patients' severity. In the pre-COVID-19 era, its main use has been the treatment of hypercapnic acute-on-chronic respiratory failure with noninvasive respiratory support, and more recently, for hypoxemic acute respiratory failure.
Areas Covered: We searched the following databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, limited to the terms: COVID-19 and RHDU, Respiratory Intermediate care Unit, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), noninvasive ventilation (NIV), high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), prone position, and monitoring.
Primary care clinicians may be well placed to play a greater role in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) management. To evaluate the outcomes and cost-effectiveness of sleep apnea management in primary versus specialist care, using an individual-participant data meta-analysis to determine whether age, sex, severity of OSA, and daytime sleepiness impacted outcomes. Data sources were the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) database, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE Ovid SP, Scopus, ProQuest, U.

Although most of the time interparticle magnetic interactions are a dominant source, in specific cases such as multigranular nanostructures intraparticle interactions are also relevant and their effect is significant. In this work, we have prepared two different multigranular magnetic nanostructures of iron oxide, nanorings (NRs) and nanotubes (NTs), with a similar thickness but different lengths (55 nm for NRs and 470 nm for NTs).

The aim of this individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis was to compare the effect of nasal and oronasal masks on treatment efficacy and adherence in patients with COPD and obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS).
Methods: We searched Medline and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for prospective randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of at least 1 month's duration, published between January 1994 and April 2019, that assessed NIV efficacy in patients with OHS and COPD.
Evidence suggests that the physiopathologic consequences of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) resemble those induced by aging. Some studies report that the deleterious effects associated with OSA might be age dependent. To evaluate the association of OSA with the aging process and to determine whether this association is maintained across different age groups.

However, it remains unclear whether CPAP therapy should be prescribed if significant hypoxemia persists during CPAP titration, despite optimization of upper airway obstructive events or if maximum CPAP pressure is reached. We aimed to examine the effects of 6 weeks of home CPAP therapy on gas exchange in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome who failed CPAP titration due to persistent hypoxemia.
