Drug conjugates of tamoxifen and melatonin linked through the amide side chain of melatonin (,) were reported as promising agents for future treatment of breast cancer, possibly reversing the adverse effects of tamoxifen. Here, we report the synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of a novel series of anticancer drug conjugates linking melatonin with tamoxifen through polymethylene spacers through the ether oxygen of melatonin (-, -, ) and compare them to the previously reported amide-linked analogues and . All hybrid ligands are antagonists of estrogen receptor alpha and agonists of the melatonin MT receptor with variable potencies.

Objective: An inability to correctly perceive chemosensory stimuli can lead to a poor quality of life. Such defects can be concomitant with excess alcohol consumption, but a large-scale cohort study linking these effects is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the impact of chronic alcohol consumption on chemosensory function by analyzing data from the NHANES 2013-2014, involving 395 participants categorized by alcohol intake behavior: 219 no-intake, 136 light-intake, and 40 risky-intake groups.

The current study offers a metal-free, direct, and successful synthesis technique for a new series of quinolinone and benzo[d][1,3]oxazine, along with an assessment of their biological activities. Heteroannulation of anthranilic acid with carbonyl-containing chemicals (aroyl pyruvate, ethyl acetoacetatete, maleic anhydride, and ethyl cyanoacetate) resulted in the desired quinolones and benzo[d][1,3]oxazines. This technique introduces a number of fundamental breakthroughs in organic synthesis, including metal-free catalysts, smart reaction conditions with column purification, and a wide functional scope.

  • Obesity is a serious global health issue affecting many countries, and traditional medical treatments have often been ineffective, making bariatric surgeries like sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) the primary options for severe cases.
  • A newer alternative, one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), simplifies procedures compared to RYGB and shows promising initial results, although there are ongoing concerns regarding biliary reflux.
  • A systematic review of 12 studies involving 1,057 patients compared RYGB and OAGB, revealing that while OAGB had advantages in BMI reduction, operation time, and complications, RYGB was better for excess weight and BMI loss. *

Can Building-Integrated Nature-based Solutions (BI-NbS) reach their full potential in the Global South? In the Egyptian context, BI-NbS are relatively new with an identified gap between the high potential in theory and low implementation rates in practice. To bridge this gap, the study conducts an in-depth investigation of BI-NbS market conditions to reveal the current trends in the residential buildings market in Egypt. It also identifies the gaps and overlaps in the perceptions of the suppliers and consumers of BI-NbS.

DZH2, a dual inhibitor of the chemokine receptors CCR5 and CXCR4, was discovered from virtual screening for CCR5 antagonists. In specific Ca chemokine signaling assays, DZH2 displayed low micromolar IC values at both chemokine receptors. Its binding to intracellular allosteric binding sites of CCR5 and CXCR4 was confirmed by MD simulations and binding free-energy calculations.

Unlabelled: The inoculum effect has been observed for nearly all antibiotics and bacterial species. However, explanations accounting for its occurrence and strength are lacking. Previous work found that the relationship between [ATP] and growth rate can account for the strength and occurrence of the inoculum effect for bactericidal antibiotics.

Various members of the family Brassicaceae are economically important and traditionally used to treat many disorders. Among the family members, Enarthrocarpus strangulatus Boissier is a common Egyptian species that was rarely studied. Consequently, the current study aims to characterize its phytochemical composition and assess its potential bioactivity comprehensively.

  • Women in northwest Syria with breast cancer face many problems getting medical care because of war, money issues, and social expectations.
  • The study talked to 22 women at a hospital who shared their experiences, showing that they often had to travel far for treatment, which cost money and made them feel isolated.
  • Despite the difficulties, many women found strength in their faith, families, and support from healthcare workers and friends to help them cope with their illness.

Non-conventional heavy metal oxide glasses have attracted great interest owing to their unique optical properties and their radiation shielding behavior. Non-conventional glasses of main chemical composition (100 - x) PbO-xBiO where x = 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, and 5 were prepared through the conventional melting and annealing approach. X-ray diffraction measurements denoted the amorphous nature of the prepared glasses.

  • The study focused on a disease outbreak in European seabass and flathead grey mullet at a facility in Egypt, characterized by infestations of caligid copepods and secondary bacterial infections.
  • A variety of analyses confirmed the caligid species as Caligus clemensi and identified Vibrio alginolyticus as the secondary bacterial infection, with notable antibiotic resistance found in the bacteria.
  • An effective treatment plan was established that included hydrogen peroxide baths and natural compounds, successfully eliminating the copepod infestations and improving the health of the fish.

  • Endocarditis related to medical care can be particularly dangerous for hemodialysis patients due to their weakened immune systems and various types of vascular access.
  • A 38-year-old hemodialysis patient presented with fever and neurological symptoms, ultimately diagnosed with infective mitro-aortic endocarditis and associated complications like subarachnoid hemorrhage.
  • Despite initial treatment showing promise, the patient's condition deteriorated, leading to fatal septic shock and multiple organ failure, highlighting the risks faced by this vulnerable population.

Prolonged exposure to different occupational or environmental toxicants triggered oxidative stress and inflammatory reactions mediated lung damage. This study was designed to explore the influence and protective impact of flavone on lung injury in rats intoxicated with nicotine (NIC) and exposed to radiation (IR). Forty rats were divided into four groups; group I control, group II flavone; rats were administered with flavone (25 mg/kg/day), group III NIC + IR; rats were injected intraperitoneally with NIC (1 mg/kg/day) and exposed to γ-IR (3.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers produced borosilicate glasses doped with CeO and GdO from municipal solid waste ashes, using a melting-quenching method, and studied their properties after exposure to 100 kGy of gamma radiation.
  • Optical data showed distinct UV peaks and luminescence changes, indicating that Gd ions enhance the luminescence of Ce ions, while FTIR analysis revealed a complex interaction between silicate and borate structures in the glass matrix.
  • The glasses demonstrated stability in optical and structural properties after radiation exposure, with improved hardness and effective radiation shielding, suggesting that using waste ashes for this purpose is both beneficial and economical.

  • This study looked at adolescents and young adults (AYAs) in a headache clinic to investigate the link between their headache characteristics and psychological health, particularly anxiety and depression.
  • The participants averaged over 19 headache days per month and many experienced severe headache-related disability, with significant numbers reporting high levels of anxiety and depression based on validated screening tools.
  • Key findings indicated that higher levels of anxiety and depression were associated with increased headache frequency, but suicidal thoughts did not correlate with disability caused by headaches.
