Introduction: Health professionals are exposed to various occupational biological, chemical, physical, and ergonomic risks, in addition to the risk of accidents. Understanding occupational accidents involving biological material in a specific area could be an initial step towards prioritizing correct working conditions.
Objectives: To determine the profile of occupational accidents involving exposure to biological material based on data from a sentinel unit in Curitiba, Brazil.

The current treatment for DNP is just palliative and the drugs may cause severe adverse effects, leading to discontinuation of treatment. Thus, new therapeutic targets need to be urgently investigated.
