Background And Objectives: Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are being developed to restore mobility, communication, and functional independence to people with paralysis. Though supported by decades of preclinical data, the safety of chronically implanted microelectrode array BCIs in humans is unknown. We report safety results from the prospective, open-label, nonrandomized BrainGate feasibility study (NCT00912041), the largest and longest-running clinical trial of an implanted BCI.

ENMD-2076, an aurora-A kinase inhibitor with anti-angiogenic properties, has shown activity in solid and hematologic malignancies. We investigated oral ENMD-2076 in an open-label, single-arm phase II study using 275 mg daily on a 28-day cycle in patients with advanced soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) receiving ≤1 line of prior therapy. Primary endpoint was 6-month progression-free survival (PFS) with ≤15% indicating no interest, and ≥40% indicating further interest in ENMD-2076.

This involves a systematic quantitative and qualitative assessment of physical components and governance features of the current waste management system. A material flow diagram (MFD) is developed, which allows visualisation of the current waste management system with all related inputs and outputs.

Allatotropins (ATs) are a family of neuropeptides that have been shown to stimulate the biosynthesis of juvenile hormone in certain insect species, and to have stimulatory activity on some visceral muscles. Here, we have examined the AT in Rhodnius prolixus. Molecular analysis revealed a cDNA fragment of 973 bp encoding one mature amidated AT (Rhopr-AT) with transcript levels observed in the central nervous system (CNS) and pool of fat body, trachea and associated peripheral nerves.

Framework for integration of informal waste management sector with the formal sector in Pakistan.

Historically, waste pickers around the globe have utilised urban solid waste as a principal source of livelihood. Formal waste management sectors usually perceive the informal waste collection/recycling networks as backward, unhygienic and generally incompatible with modern waste management systems. It is proposed here that through careful planning and administration, these seemingly troublesome informal networks can be integrated into formal waste management systems in developing countries, providing mutual benefits.
