 Metacarpal fractures are common and have various treatment options, but understanding their morphometry is crucial for optimizing fixation techniques and reducing complications. Accurate assessment of metacarpal anatomy is challenging in conventional radiographs but feasible with computed tomography (CT) scans, which offer precise views. This study aimed to provide accurate anatomical data on metacarpals within an Indian population using CT scans and to compare the results with existing literature.

Impact of COVID lockdown: Increased prevalence of symptomatic Vitamin D deficiency in adolescents.

Background: During the COVID lockdown in India, which lasted for more than a year, all schools were closed and children were homebound. When the lockdown was lifted, we observed an increased prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency(VDD) in adolescents. We want to highlight the effect of home lockdown on adolescents, which can predispose such children to VDD.

Outcomes of late-stages infantile Blount's disease managed by acute single stage: medial hemi-plateau elevation and metaphyseal osteotomy. Eight case series.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of surgical intervention involving acute medial hemi-plateau elevation and metaphyseal osteotomy with internal fixation and growth modulation for late-stages Blount's disease. A retrospective analysis was conducted on consecutive patients with late-stages infantile tibia vara between 2014 and 2020. Inclusion criteria consisted of children aged 8 years and older with Blount's disease with Langenskiold stage IV, V or VI, tibia vara more than 30*, medial plateau depression angle (MPDA) exceeding 25* and knee instability with a minimum follow-up period of 3 years.

Combining non-vascularized fibula and cancellous graft in the masquelet technique: A promising approach to distal femur compound fracture management with large defects.

Introduction: Compound fractures of the distal femur with large defects pose a significant challenge in management, with several options available, including external fixators, bone grafting, the Masquelet-induced membrane technique, and free vascularized fibular grafts. The Masquelet-induced membrane technique involves placing a cement spacer in the defect to create a biologically active membrane. In the second stage, the gold standard for filling the defect is an autologous cancellous bone graft of 1-2 mm in size.

Intraoperative Periprosthetic Fractures during primary Total knee arthroplasty: Experience from an Asian high-volume arthroplasty centre.

Background: Intraoperative periprosthetic fracture (IF) is an under-reported complication in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to audit the outcomes and complication rates in patients encountering IF during primary TKA and propose a new classification for its management.

Methods: A nested case-control study was performed at a tertiary referral hospital where 50 patients encountering IF during primary TKA operated by a single surgeon team between January 2016 to May 2021, were compared with 150 (3:1) age-, gender- and implant-matched patients not encountering IF.

This benign lesion needs to be distinguished from many malignant bone tumors as it poses a diagnostic dilemma due to its clinical, radiological, and histological picture. Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a mosquito-transmitted tropical neglected parasitic infection that currently affects over 120 million people around the world and another 856 million people are at risk of acquiring the infection. Mass Drug Administration (MDA) spearheaded by the World Health Organization is the only current strategy to control this infection in endemic areas. In this study, we performed an epidemiological survey in select regions in the southern parts of India to determine the current status of LF infection in subjects.

Simultaneous bilateral neck of femur fractures in an adolescent secondary to hypocalcaemic seizure.

We present a rare case of a previously healthy 16-year-old boy who sustained simultaneous bilateral femoral neck fractures after a single first-time seizure episode. He was diagnosed to have severe vitamin D deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism. Symptomatic hypocalcemia was the cause of seizures.

Early quadriceps tendon rupture after primary total knee arthroplasty.

Background: Extensor mechanism disruption following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a rare complication and results in significant morbidity and severe functional limitations. Quadriceps tendon rupture in the early postoperative period after TKA is one limitation about which there is a significant paucity of available information.

Methods: In this retrospective study of 2404 patients who underwent primary TKA between June 2015 to May 2016, there were 10 quadriceps tendon ruptures in seven patients (three bilateral, four unilateral) presented within 3 months after surgery.
