Familial hypercholesterolaemia in pregnancy: Australian case series and review.

Background: Familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) is associated with a significant increase in the risk of premature coronary artery disease. Pregnancy is likely a vulnerable time for atherosclerosis progression, with a physiological rise in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) further exaggerated by the discontinuation of cholesterol-lowering therapy.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was undertaken of 13 women with familial hypercholesterolemia who were managed during pregnancy between 2007 and 2021 by a multidisciplinary team following individualised risk assessment.

An immunosuppressed 37-year-old woman with right atrial necrotising myocarditis.

A 37-year-old immunocompromised woman was admitted with palpitations, fevers and myalgias. An echocardiogram demonstrated a mass in the right atrial walls and interatrial septum. Endovascular biopsy of the myocardium revealed neutrophilic necrotising myocarditis isolated to the right atrium.

Major adverse cardiac events during endurance sports.

Major adverse cardiac events in endurance exercise are usually due to underlying and unsuspected heart disease. The investigators present an analysis of major adverse cardiac events that occurred during 2 consecutive annual long distance races (a 36-km beach cycling race and a 21-km half marathon) over the past 5 years. All patients with events were transported to the hospital.
