Fibroelastoma in an unusual location: a rare cause of multiple cerebrovascular events.

Unlabelled: Fibroelastomas are rare, primary cardiac tumours with a predilection for valvular endothelium and a propensity to embolise. We present the case of a 72-year-old male with multiple cerebrovascular events (CVA) despite oral anticoagulation. Transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) revealed a small highly mobile left atrial mass with frond-like projections attached by a stalk to the orifice of the LAA.

Separation anxiety: Extreme dehiscence of a mitral annuloplasty ring.

We report a patient admitted with acute pulmonary edema 3 months after mitral valve repair, with no history of inter-current febrile illness. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) demonstrated severe mitral regurgitation (MR) and an abnormally positioned annuloplasty ring, suggestive of dehiscence. The extreme extent of ring dehiscence was visualized on 3-dimensional TEE (3D), with near-complete separation of the ring.

Anterior mitral valve perforation in the absence of acute infection: Diagnosis by two-dimensional and three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography.

Anterior mitral valve leaflet (AMVL) perforation is most commonly seen in the setting of infective endocarditis. We present a case of AMVL perforation in a previously healthy 62-year-old male who presented with a six-month history of worsening dyspnea and peripheral edema. Blood cultures, inflammatory markers, and autoimmune profile were negative.

Predictors and outcome of no-reflow post primary percutaneous coronary intervention for ST elevation myocardial infarction.

Background: No-reflow (TIMI < 3) during primary PCI (PCI) for STEMI occurs in 11-41% of cases, indicates poor myocardial tissue perfusion, and is associated with a poor outcome. We aimed to determine predictors and 12 month outcomes of patients who developed no-reflow.

Methods: We analysed the PCI database of The Canberra Hospital and identified 781 patients who underwent primary PCI during 2008-2012.
