Methods: Sedentary adults with obesity aged 65 to 79 years completed a randomized trial investigating the cardiorespiratory benefits of adding moderate (~ 250 kcal) or high (~ 600 kcal) caloric restriction to a 20-week aerobic exercise program. Objectives: We aimed to determine the effect of a 6-mo hypocaloric, nutritionally complete, higher-protein meal plan on change in bone density and quality as compared with weight stability in older adults using a randomized post-test design. Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the diet-induced weight loss only (D) and diet-induced weight loss plus exercise (D + E) groups in the Intensive Diet and Exercise for Arthritis randomized controlled clinical trial. Objective: To examine the long-term effects of telephone-delivered cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT-T) compared with nondirective supportive therapy (NST-T) in rural older adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Methods: 141 adults aged 60 years and older with a principal/co-principal diagnosis of GAD were randomized to either CBT-T or NST-T. CBT-T consisted of up to 11 sessions (9 were required) focused on recognition of anxiety symptoms, relaxation, cognitive restructuring and use of coping statements, problem-solving, worry control, behavioral activation, exposure therapy, and relapse prevention, with optional chapters on sleep and pain.
