Article Synopsis
  • * Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks essential hormone receptors and has significantly lower 5-year survival rates compared to other breast cancer types, along with higher relapse rates within a few years post-diagnosis.
  • * Research indicates that breast adipose-derived secretome (ADS) from obese patients enhances TNBC cell invasiveness and JAG1 expression more than ADS from non-obese patients, emphasizing the need for new treatments targeting TNBC in overweight individuals.

This is a case of 49-year-old white woman who presented with a rapidly growing right sided breast mass. A subsequent punch biopsy confirmed grade 3 invasive mammary carcinoma of no special type which was negative for oestrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and Her-2 neu overexpression. She was a carrier of folliculin gene mutation that is characteristic of Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHDS), a condition known to cause skin lesions, renal cancers and pneumothoraces.

This article contains supporting data for the research paper entitled: Dietary walnut altered gene expressions related to tumor growth, survival, and metastasis in breast cancer patients: a pilot clinical trial' [1] Hardman et al., 2019. Included are tables for all mapped genes and all unmapped loci identifications that were significantly changed in breast cancers by consumption of walnut for about 2 weeks.

Consumption of walnuts has slowed breast cancer growth and/or reduced the risk of mammary cancer in mice. The benefit against cancer was associated with altered expression of genes for cancer growth and survival. We hypothesized that walnut consumption would alter gene expression in pathologically confirmed breast cancers of women in a direction that would be expected to decrease breast cancer growth and survival, as was seen in mice.

Introduction: Malignant phyllodes tumor of the breast is an extremely rare entity usually presenting with similar clinical features with those of benign fibroadenoma. Due to its scarcity and clinical presentation, it is quite difficult for clinicians to suspect and diagnose the disease at its early stage. There is currently no consensus regarding adjunctive radiotherapy, hormonal therapy and systemic chemotherapy recommended for malignant phyllodes tumors.

Background: The need for axillary nodal staging in favorable histologic subtypes of breast cancer is controversial.

Methods: Patients with clinical stage T1-2, N0 breast cancer were enrolled in a prospective, multi-institutional study. All patients underwent sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy followed by completion level I/II axillary dissection.
