Color stability of aligner materials on exposure to indigenous food products: An in-vitro study.

Background: In the recent day, there has been an exponential growth in the usage of clear aligners for orthodontic treatment. As with any removable appliance, the compliance of patients to remove it during ingestion of food is, at times, poor. Thus, the stability of the clear aligner to be "clear" becomes questionable.

Phase 1b trial of nintedanib in combination with bevacizumab in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors have produced demonstrable but limited benefit for various cancers. One mechanism of resistance includes revascularization, secondary to upregulation of alternative pro-angiogenic platelet-derived growth factor receptor and fibroblast growth factor receptor pathways. Nintedanib is an oral, triple kinase inhibitor that blocks these pathways and may improve anti-tumor activity by overcoming resistance to anti-VEGF therapies.

A pilot study of zoledronic acid in the treatment of patients with advanced malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Purpose: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare malignancy with a dismal median survival of <12 months with current therapy. Single and combination chemotherapy regimens have shown only modest clinical benefit. In preclinical studies, nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (zoledronic acid) inhibit growth of mesothelioma cells by different mechanisms: inhibition of mevalonate pathway, inhibition of angiogenesis, activation of apoptosis through caspase activation, and alteration in activity of matrix metalloproteinases, thereby affecting invasiveness of cancer cells.

Pilot phase II study of metronomic chemotherapy in combination with bevacizumab in patients with advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer.

Introduction: The goal of this study was to explore the efficacy and tolerability of metronomic chemotherapy, a novel anti-angiogenic treatment strategy, in combination with bevacizumab in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Subjects with newly diagnosed stage IV NSCLC were treated with 4-week cycles of paclitaxel 80mg/m and gemcitabine 300mg/m weekly for three weeks, plus bevacizumab 10mg/kg every two weeks. Radiologic assessments were performed every 8 weeks.

Phase II study of a novel taxane (Cabazitaxel-XRP 6258) in previously treated advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Purpose: Given the success of cabazitaxel in patients with prostate cancer who progressed after receiving prior chemotherapy, its preclinical efficacy in various cell lines and possible ability to cross blood-brain barrier, cabazitaxel was hypothesized to increase objective response rate (ORR) in second-line setting in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: This was a phase II 2-stage trial in 28 patients using two different treatment schedules (A: 20 mg/m(2) every 3 weeks intravenously and B: 8.4 mg/m(2) intravenously weekly) to determine the ORR of cabazitaxel with secondary end points including progression-free survival (PFS), safety, and overall survival (OS).

Phase I/IIa study of sequential chemotherapy regimen of bendamustine/irinotecan followed by etoposide/carboplatin in untreated patients with extensive disease small cell lung cancer (EDSCLC).

Purpose: The sequence bendamustine (B) + Irinotecan (I) followed by etoposide (E) + carboplatin (C) was hypothesized to increase progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in untreated extensive-disease small cell lung cancer (EDSCLC) patients compared to historical controls by exploiting mitotic catastrophe. Absent expression of ERCC-1 and expression of topoisomerases were hypothesized to be predictive for PFS and OS.

Methods: This was a phase I/IIa trial in 30 patients to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of B + I and the PFS of B + I E + C with secondary end points including overall response rate (ORR) and OS.

Centronuclear myopathy in Labrador retrievers: a recent founder mutation in the PTPLA gene has rapidly disseminated worldwide.

Centronuclear myopathies (CNM) are inherited congenital disorders characterized by an excessive number of internalized nuclei. In humans, CNM results from ~70 mutations in three major genes from the myotubularin, dynamin and amphiphysin families. Analysis of animal models with altered expression of these genes revealed common defects in all forms of CNM, paving the way for unified pathogenic and therapeutic mechanisms.

Prevalence of the MYBPC3-A31P mutation in a large European feline population and association with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the Maine Coon breed.

Objectives: The MYBPC3-A31P mutation has been identified in the USA in a colony of Maine Coon cats with an autosomal dominant hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The objectives of this prospective study were: 1) to evaluate the prevalence of this mutation in a large feline population from Europe; 2) to compare these data with the prevalence of HCM in the Maine Coon breed.

Animals And Methods: 1) 3757 cats from different breeds including 2744 Maine Coon cats were screened for the mutation.
