The Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS) movement continues to grow in the United States as more health systems implement the 4Ms framework. Despite this growth, there are relatively few studies that evaluate outcomes related to AFHS implementation. This study assessed patient satisfaction with AFHS by analyzing the rate at which patients returned to the clinic for future health care, serving as a measure of quality.

Problem: Quality Improvement (QI) is interprofessional by nature; however, most academic QI programs occur in silos and do not leverage the opportunity to bring interprofessional learners together.

Intervention: To evaluate QI competencies of physician, nursing, pharmacy, behavioral health, and social work residents after participating in a longitudinal QI curriculum. Lessons learned are shared to guide educators in developing QI curriculum for interprofessional learners.

Background: The Age-Friendly Health Systems model, encompassing four key elements (4Ms)-What Matters, Medication, Mentation, Mobility-is integral to delivering high-quality care to older adult patients. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has sharpened the focus on health care safety and quality, underscoring the importance of using standardized metrics such as the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). Second victim phenomenon (SVP) occurs when nurses who are involved in an unanticipated adverse event become victimized and traumatized by the event. Following a needs assessment, an SVP education program was implemented, including adverse events and SVP experiences, available support, and a case study. Evaluation indicated nurses had improved knowledge and attitude and increased practice intent.

Background: For the last 17 years, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) prelicensure competencies and knowledge, skill, and attitude (KSA) statements were integrated into nursing curricula.

Problem: With the publication of the competency-based American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials , it is important to determine the overlap of the QSEN competencies.

The purpose of this study was to examine associations among emotional intelligence, quality of patient-provider interaction, and hypertension (HTN) self-management behaviors. A convenience sample of 90 adults (predominately African American women) with primary HTN were recruited from an urban ambulatory internal medicine clinic. Multivariate linear regression models were used to determine the predictive associations among the study variables.

Little is known about the relationships among self-efficacy, social determinants of health, and health outcomes in adults living with sickle cell disease (SCD). We conducted mediation analyses examining the relationships among health literacy, perceived stigma, self-efficacy, and health outcomes in an online cohort of adults living with SCD. The health outcomes explored were physical and mental health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and pain interference; covariates included gender, disease severity, and depressive symptoms.

Objective: To describe the implementation of the age-friendly health systems (AFHS) 4Ms Framework, an evidence-based framework to assess and act on "What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility to deliver Age-Friendly health care for patients 65 and older", to achieve the Institute for Health care Improvement (IHI) Committed to Care Excellence recognition in a convenient care health system and test two novel implementation strategies.

Setting: The study was conducted in over 1100 convenient care clinics in 35 states and DC. MinuteClinics are located in community-based retail pharmacies in rural, suburban, and urban areas and staffed with approximately 3300 nurse practitioners and physician associates.

Authors describe a quality improvement approach to develop and pilot test educational materials with an aim to educate MinuteClinic providers in the provision of age-friendly care using the 4Ms Framework: What Matters, Medication, Mentation, Mobility. The team used surveys, focus groups and site visits to develop educational prototypes with Plan-Do-Study-Act iterative cycles to improve the education. Educational materials introduced providers to 4Ms assessment and evidence-based act on strategies for older adults in the convenient care setting.

Longitudinal and behavioral preclinical animal studies generate complex data, which may not be well matched to statistical approaches common in this literature. Analyses that do not adequately account for complexity may result in overly optimistic study conclusions, with consequences for reproducibility and translational decision-making. Recent work interrogating methodological shortcomings in animal research has not yet comprehensively investigated statistical shortcomings in the analysis of complex longitudinal and behavioral data.
