The diagnosis and treatment of sinonasal small round epithelial/neuroepithelial malignancies depend on the expression of conventional neuroendocrine markers (NEMs), such as synaptophysin, chromogranin A, INSM1, and CD56/NCAM1. However, these tumors remain diagnostically challenging because of overlapping histologic and immunohistochemical features. The transcriptional regulators ASCL1, NEUROD1, POU2F3, and YAP1 are novel NEM (nNEM) used for the subtyping of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).

Prognostic Value of "Basal-like" Morphology, Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes and Multi-MAGE-A Expression in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

"Basal-like" (BL) morphology and the expression of cancer testis antigens (CTA) in breast cancer still have unclear prognostic significance. The aim of our research was to explore correlations of the morphological characteristics and tumor microenvironment in triple-negative breast carcinomas (TNBCs) with multi-MAGE-A CTA expression and to determine their prognostic significance. Clinical records of breast cancer patients who underwent surgery between January 2017 and December 2018 in four major Croatian clinical centers were analyzed.

Background: Helsmoortel-Van der Aa syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder in which patients present with autism, intellectual disability, and frequent extra-neurological features such as feeding and gastrointestinal problems, visual impairments, and cardiac abnormalities. All patients exhibit heterozygous de novo nonsense or frameshift stop mutations in the Activity-Dependent Neuroprotective Protein (ADNP) gene, accounting for a prevalence of 0.2% of all autism cases worldwide.

PRAME expression and its prognostic significance in invasive breast carcinoma.

Objectives: PRAME (PReferentially expressed Antigen in MElanoma) is a carcinoma testis antigen expressed in numerous tumour types. The aim of this study was to assess PRAME expression in different surrogate subtypes of breast carcinoma and its correlation with other prognostic factors.

Material And Methods: A total of 220 cases of invasive breast carcinoma were selected and categorized according to ER, PgR, HER2 status, and Ki67 proliferation index in luminal A like, luminal B HER2+ like, luminal B HER2- negative like, HER2 positive like and triple-negative or basal-like.

Preliminary Comparison of Molecular Antioxidant and Inflammatory Mechanisms Determined in the Peripheral Blood Granulocytes of COVID-19 Patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate selected parameters of redox signaling and inflammation in the granulocytes of COVID-19 patients who recovered and those who died. Upon admission, the patients did not differ in terms of any relevant clinical parameter apart from the percentage of granulocytes, which was 6% higher on average in those patients who died. Granulocytes were isolated from the blood of 15 healthy people and survivors and 15 patients who died within a week, and who were selected post hoc for analysis according to their matching gender and age.

Breast Cancer Surrogate Subtype Classification Using Pretreatment Multi-Phase Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Radiomics: A Retrospective Single-Center Study.

This study aimed to explore the potential of multi-phase dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) radiomics for classifying breast cancer surrogate subtypes. This retrospective study analyzed 360 breast cancers from 319 patients who underwent pretreatment DCE-MRI between January 2015 and January 2019. The cohort consisted of 33 triple-negative, 26 human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive, 109 luminal A-like, 144 luminal B-like HER2-negative, and 48 luminal B-like HER2-positive lesions.

Calcium-Sensing Receptor Expression in Breast Cancer.

The calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of calcium in the body. Altered signaling through the CaSR has been linked to the development of various tumors, such as colorectal and breast tumors. This retrospective study enrolled 79 patients who underwent surgical removal of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type (NST) to explore the expression of the CaSR in breast cancer.

Percutaneous CT-Guided Bone Lesion Biopsy for Confirmation of Bone Metastases in Patients with Breast Cancer.

We aimed to determine diagnostic accuracy of CT-guided bone lesion biopsy for the confirmation of bone metastases in patients with breast cancer and assessment of hormone receptor status in metastatic tissue. A total of 56 female patients with breast cancer that underwent CT-guided biopsy of suspected bone metastasis were enrolled in this retrospective study. Three different techniques were employed to obtain samples from various sites of skeleton.

Case report: two cases of spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma associated with pancreatitis.

Intramural duodenal hematoma (IDH) is a rare entity and is generally associated with trauma. Spontaneous (nontraumatic) intramural duodenal hematoma is associated with bleeding disorders, anticoagulation therapy, alcoholism, pancreatitis, tumours  and duodenal ulcers. We report two cases of spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma in middle-aged men who subsequently developed pancreatitis.

Prognostic Significance of Lymphocyte Infiltrate Localization in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

High infiltration by tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) is associated with favorable prognosis in different tumor types, but the clinical significance of their spatial localization within the tumor microenvironment is debated. To address this issue, we evaluated the accumulation of intratumoral TILs (itTILs) and stromal TILs (sTILs) in samples from 97 patients with early triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in the center (sTIL central) and periphery (sTIL peripheral) of tumor tissues. Moreover, the presence of primary and secondary lymphoid aggregates (LAs) and the expression levels of the cancer testis antigen (CTA), NY-ESO-1, and PD-L1 were explored.

Diagnostic performance of digital breast tomosynthesis in female patients with nipple discharge.

Background: Nipple discharge is one of the most common symptoms related to the breast, but it is a presenting feature of breast cancer in 5%-12% of women.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic performance of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) in the evaluation of patients with nipple discharge and to compare it with mammography (MMG), ultrasound (US), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Methods And Results: This retrospective study included 53 patients with nipple discharge.

Dermal hyperneury (DN) is a rarely reported form of small nerve hypertrophy characterized by an exaggerated size and prominence of dermal nerve fibers. Clinically, it can present with or without visible lesions, within a syndrome or sporadically, and in solitary or multiple fashion. The syndromes most commonly associated with DN include multiple endocrine neoplasia 2B and 2A, neurofibromatosis type II, and Cowden syndrome.

Background: Our objective was to assess the effects of COVID-19 antiepidemic measures and subsequent changes in the function of the health care system on the number of newly diagnosed breast cancers in the Republic of Croatia.

Subjects, Materials, And Methods: We performed a retrospective, population- and registry-based study during 2020. The comparator was the number of patients newly diagnosed with breast cancer during 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) usually affect women in their fertile years and, therefore, have implications for their fertility and pregnancy.
