Modular dual-mobility cups (MDMCs) reduce dislocation risk after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in hip fracture and revision patients, with a 97% implant survival rate for primary THAs and 90% for revision THAs over two years.
Dislocations occurred in only 1.4% of primary THA patients but were more common at 12.9% in the revision group, while mortality rates were consistent at 13% for both groups.
The study found a 46% decrease in re-hospitalization due to THA dislocations after the introduction of MDMCs at Kuopio University Hospital, indicating improved short-term outcomes for patients.
